What part of "when restraint is down" didn't you understand?

Edit: and you fixed it.

Yes I did. Give me a few minutes to finalize my post (AKA reread over it 10 times and do ninja edits) before replying. I do it every single time.

Question:

I geared up my mule on war, but not entirely sure I want to make an Ukon on him, as it's my wife who generally uses his war for proccing/occasional cleave/DD.

Is the WoE Great Axe marginally acceptable anymore? With other options out there? Or would she be better off just making/buying one of the other available Great Axes and sticking with Upheaval?

The last time this came up, the recommendation was just to use the french greatsword and resolution rather than bothering with anything else. Dies Irae (with Raging Rush) is obviously a pretty nice option for Abyssea usage though.

Wife uses our mule with is a elvaan male :P.

And I have him a decent Resolution set, but I was looking to work on his Great Axe versatility in events where he'll want to use Cleave and Upheaval/Ukon's Fury/etc respectively.

Dies Irae also has a lot of draw backs.

New expansion is out. Some of the new Bayld set for heavy DDs looks like it could very well outclass old options (definitely looking at Upheaval set changes). What is everyone adopting to their sets?

For upheaval clearly legs and feet are best in slot. Legs are also best in slot for Ukko's (except if acc needed)

Curious about ukko's feet. Do the new feet surpass rav+2 for those of us without huguin?

Ukko's: No change from posted sets, although Ares' legs +1 and Karieyh are so close it will probably change depending on mobs/buffs very frequently(Karieyh gain a clear advantage when you need the attack).

Reso: Karieyh feet are a clear best in slot. Karieyh legs slightly edge out Ares' +1 and gain a clear advantage when you need the attack.

Upheaval: Karieyh legs and feet are obviously best in slot pieces.

Those are about the only changes I see using everything in the Karieyh set for none-MS WS. MS WS Huginn feet are still a clear winner for all of those WS.

Ravager's +2 should still win, unless your crit. rate is absurdly low.

What about Karieyh hands vs Phorcys hands (for people still lacking Ares +1 like myself).

So.. uhm. How is the lolWoE G. Axe for bullshiting around? I'm not a War main so I'm not really planning on making a 90 Ukon for just messin' around. Simply want a viable WS when I can't get/have Upheaval.

Playing around with some of the Karieyh gear on the spreadsheet, I have hands tied with Huginn and beating Phorcys and Ares+1 handily in pretty much any situation for Upheaval (at least for Conqueror with AM3). Also, for Restraint down, Karieyh head seems to win for tp over Ares +1, with Ares +1 hands and goading belt. I don't see any changes to tp set with Restraint up.

edit: This set for Restraint down, with the only upgrade possible being Huginn feet.

Is the Karieyh Body better than Phorcys Korazin for Ukko's? I have no idea how to account for "Increases Weapon Skill Damage" on the Phorcys.

Also, do the Karieyh Hands beat Phorcys Hands for Ukko's? We finally got a group together that can win in NNI and I'm beginning to wonder if we should just be farming Bayld instead... >.<

Thanks in advance.

the increases wsdmg on phorcys is 7% applied to only the first hit. I don't see the new kari body beating it, it might win for resolution maybe... but I don't have the spreadsheets to math it out.

As for hand slot im sure hecatomb +1 with augments are still in that slot unless ive missed something.

Thanks for the reply- the reason I asked about Phorcys hands vs. Kari is because it's a lot easier for me to get those than it is to get and augment Heca hands (gil is a factor in this). I can get Phorcys hands this weekend- a pair of decently augmented Heca is more of a gil/timesink.

So I actually checked this with a friend and I would like to revise my statement.

The new kari body does indeed win for ukkos fury using ig alima as target with chaos minuet 2xmarch and rcb. The difference was quite substantial was something like 1950 phorcys > 2070 kari using montens spreadsheet.

I didn't run the actual numbers Karah did so if any one wants to double check then please do. Gear was rav mask claymore grip 90 ukon rav orb Kari body heca hands rajas pyro rancor back ele gorget + waist ares +1 legs and war af3 feet.

Karieyh body will start winning in that situation as your getting acc from the 18dex, swopping back to letalis, ravagers orb to bomblet and using stalwarts should get you close to capped acc and Phorcys pulls ahead again

Ig was just a base target with relatively known stats, They wasnt using full VW buffs because frankly who cares about VW? no one really....

Point was the dex on the body was boosting crit rate it appeared which is why it was pushing it higher. Which was also why kari legs didnt beat ares because you didnt need the att form the kari, 0-low buff though and kari legs started to pull ahead.

Situational is situational but I thought id throw it out there since people like min/maxin almost everything.

is it really worth it to loose 3% dbl attack and 15 atk just to get 8 str in uko ? (ravagers +2 legs vs warriors +2 legs)

The facts jack;

It's a 60% STR mod ws

Depending on what you are doing, you can typically cap attack fairly easily/in other slots/with appropriate buffs.

War in general already has a fair amount of double attack and multi attack gear for ws and innately. This is further enhanced by fighter's roll which you should be getting most often.

So in reality it's more like 3DA vs 8STR and with what I stated above, not really worth it. Frankly between Karieyh Brayettes, Ares+1 and Ogier's the AF2+2 piece is hardly worth carrying around. It's only competitive with WC up.

On the other hand, it's an intermediate step into getting those other pieces so it's something to use until you can find something better.

The reason it isn't shown is due to it being a side-grade to most optimal sets that would use an augmented Valkyre Brestplate. It's still a good piece and it can definitely turn useful if you lack Valk (war) or Enif (drk) bodies. I use it when playing with my Bravura.

Learn from the japanese!
Porthos is great because it allows you do cap haste with movementspeed shoes(powders in NNI) fulltime.

I'm going to make myself look like a total fool here, so please forgive me.

I'm just starting to actively play my Warrior as my shell requests for events, so I'm gearing it up and up 'til now I had been using old Windower scripts. Working on Spellcasts now, and copy/pasted a template...

There are sets for WS with and without Berserk, with and without Restraint, with and without MS (Which I would presume you'd want to tack on some Crit Damage bonus stuff here, this one I sort of understand).

Just curious, somewhere in these 17 pages, or anywhere for that matter... what are the gearing goals for with/without Berserk/Restraint? I don't really know if I'm wording this in a way that's clear, but I really have no idea what sort of differences I might find in those sets.

Often times with food and buffs, you'll be capping attack against whatever mob you might be fighting when you have Berserk up, but not when it's down. As such, the ideal set may change, so you would swap between the two to possibly get a piece with more attack on it that's better than what you'd use if Berserk were up and more attack won't benefit you.

Restraint is easier. AF3+2 hands, when worn for tp while Restraint is up, double the bonus to your WS from Restraint, so as long as you're not sacrificing too much to work them in, they will almost always win.

Well unless you have ares+1 gear, your restraint sets are just going to be one set with Rvg. hands +2 and one without, unless you personally don't have anything better.

For Berserk up/down sets, your WS set won't even change much, as your it should already be pretty atk/str heavy with standard gear. Though, on the other hand, having an Aggressor up/down set will prove worthwhile. WS swaps would include things such as Ogier's legs, elemental belt, letalis mantle, etc.

Ayrendel and Hirokei, thank you. Exactly what I was looking for.

As for this bit, however...

What would be considered too much of a sacrifice?

If I threw them into my current TP set, I'd be sitting at 24% Gear Haste with Restraint up. Does the WS bonus make up for it, or is the loss of DoT not worth it until I can mix it up and stay Haste capped with the Emp+2?

This is going to change based on your overall gear set and what content you're doing, but if the difference is dropping from 26 to 24%, it probably is better to leave them out. It shouldn't be too hard to cap haste with them on though, so it all varies.
