Gamer Escape Down?

honestly, i was perfectly happy with the default setup of GE before it went down. Search bar and topic navigation on the right. Was easy to use and navigate. Info displayed on the rest of the page was well formatted, easy to read/understand/follow. Text was large enough to read easily, but small enough to fit all the info without crowding the page. I never had any complaints with it.

I wouldn't no for sure till i tried it i guess, but i think i would dislike a pop out menu. Reason being, when i switch windows over to GE its usually for one of two things. Either recheck info that is already up, in which case having the menu bar their or not doesn't matter to much. Or to search something different then what i have currently displayed. In which case i want the menu bar their and ready to go. Having the extra effort of opening and closing a pop up menu bar would just getting annoying i think.

Also (and this might seem trivial) since the majority of ppl are right handed, and using the mouse on the right side, it is easier to maneuver the on screen mouse on the right side. If your injured or tired or anything, and find yourself practically laying down in your chair, stretching that arm to barely reach the mouse, that little bit of room saved could make all the difference. (or maybe thats just me)

I think most of those skins are pretty annoying, especially the full-page background art. I keep mine set to Monobook (the Wikipedia skin) on both GE and Wikia.

Hey all, the FFXI GE Wiki is back up and all styled up for you! We'll be making some changes to the front page in the next few days to include an RSS feed for news (you can see our FFXIV Wiki for an example of how this will look)I lied, the main page is updated now!

The only thing about the original wiki that really pisses me off is the broken script of typing in what I'm looking for in the search bar and having its actual page load automatically.

Before, I would go to the "search" area, type what I want, hit enter, and the page would come up. Now when I go to the search area, type what I want and hit enter, it brings me up to a page of all the possibilities. No. I typed in "Blue Mage" and I want it to go to wiki/Blue_Mage. Oy. It's gotten so annoying that half the time I just switch out main_page with whatever I'm looking for. >:/

Other than that I prefer the main wiki though I agree it is falling apart. I wonder if it'd be possible to clean it up and make it shiny again...

I'm baffled as to how that got broken given that it was working just fine a couple months ago. With how long it takes for the site to load it just adds to the frustration of using it.

In other news, GamerEscape is running a lot smoother for me now, so kudos to the people working on it. I don't see much point in ever using the old wiki ever again given that pretty much all the info there is copypasta'd over to GamerEscape, which actually has people maintaining it, technical-wise.

If you're using Firefox, install a search engine for FFXIclopedia or GE and any direct match will go to the correct page automatically. You don't even have to match case. Just Google it, I know there's one on MozDev for FFXIclopedia, but I can't remember where I found one for GE.
