Seems to only address oral dosage. I'm guessing this wouldn't have been compelling evidence for the jury unless the same could have been said for inhaling it.

Their report is kinda crappy overall TBH. But yah the FDA should have to fork over the cash not the popcorn company. When the FDA is issuing out very general statements imo its their fault for not enforcing regulation.

Wrongly putting the onus of the problem on the victim/consumer is what I was getting at. Sorry I brought it up honestly, since the argument has been played out already (and locked!).

Basicially, what you're saying then is that even if popcorn company put a warning label (which is the whole premise of this guy's case) that it still wouldn't be the consumers fault.

I agree that this person should have been warned about the potentially harmful chemical and it wasn't his fault that he developed the respiratory problem; however, you still have to come to the realization that too much of anything can be harmful and that is one of the points that the article is trying to make.

Uh... where did I say such a thing? It was a comment on the few posts above mine where the victim in the case was being called stupid for eating popcorn.

Your dynamis currency reference really didn't make any sense then since the situations are completely different. Oh well. We seem to share the same point of view on this thread and it would be pointless to argue any further.

We all know the FDA is a well funded bureaucracy that's known for it's cutting edge Science and Research...

Don't take me for a basher, I believe things would be worse if there was no FDA. That said, their regulations are not the only mechanism we have to restrain corporate greed, that's why we have courts and allow civil tort cases.

@bacon, all it takes is one test case (meaning lawsuit) to show that splenda causes something horrible, that the manufacturers knew, and didn't take steps to make sure the public wasn't harmed. Given enough time, if there is a latent potential danger it'll come to light....
