Model Viewer Problems
By Stevehoe 2012-08-25 10:02:04
I've done a lot of searching on this, and I keep finding myself back to the same answer, that just isn't working for me. My Model Viewer won't work for nothing. Keeps saying the file can't be found (which I've seen other people with this problem, but changing to the steam folder works for them).
I keep getting the same error, can't find FFXI folder. So, the basics of my problem.
I play through steam. I have tried numerous times to change to the right file path and have spelled everything correctly, with the right forms of "\" in all the right places, even enclosing the path at the end.
My path looks like this, and I'm just curious if anyone can see the problem?
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\ffxi\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\rom\
I've tried it with the rom off, and on the end. And to my knowledge the capitalization is irrelevant since it still takes me the path I need. Maybe I'm wrong? I feel bad for asking a question that's been asked many times, but apparently others aren't having the same problem as me.
At any rate, if someone could help me figure this out, I would appreciate it!

your path should be C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\ffxi\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\

Well, it doesn't give me the error message now. I included the original .dat path also, and no error there either. Let's say, for instance, I want to switch the Kantonotachi image out for the Amano. How would I go about that from this point? I see the name of the .dat's and such now, but I'm still lost on that concept.

if you want to replace A with B, you have to find A, rename it B, then overwrite B (you should back up original B)
for instance,
amano is ROM\139\16.dat (A) <<<< This is the Galka path for Amano, each race uses a different path due to skeleton weights
find whatever your gkatana model is (B)
back up (B)
rename 16.dat (A) to whatever #.dat (B) and replace

It seems that image isn't even on this model viewer. Can they be stored under a different name that looks just like it?
By the way, thanks for all the help!

Yep, exactly. So whichever looks like your gkatana would be the one you replace, and every great katana that uses that model will also be replaced (no way around this).
Just be careful with placing it in the right folder, or else your game will start looking like this ...

I fail to see what is wrong with those pictures. They look correct to me!

That literally made me laugh.
Now I'm to the point that I can't find this supposed A. B. Is my character supposed to load in the model viewer? Because he isn't, I have to put everything in manually. I feel like I did 8 years ago, strutting through the dunes.. Being excited that I was getting 100exp a kill again. ; ; Is there a less discreet setting I have to look for, under settings maybe? Or are you talking about just finding the picture, knowing the .dat name, then switching the names out to where I can just copy that .dat exactly, and rewrite the other one? Which wouldn't involve MV at all, other than the fact I used it to find the .dat's I needed?
Don't kill me. o.o;
EDIT: It's an unknown file name 1-444-50.dat
By bubblybernie 2012-08-25 11:55:50
Yeah, the latter. Basically, modelviewer is used to find the .dat name, then you have to do the legwork by going into your folders and finding these files and replacing them yourself. Modelviewer can't do that for you.
Unknown 1-444-50.dat sounds like you may be using an outdated list, but I am not sure.

You might wanna use Altanaviewer instead, i think it's easier to read.
