So, you've finally obtained your Mavi Bazubands and/or Mavi Basmak! Congratulations! (For the sake of simplicity and to make this post less confusing, let's say they're +2 - although +1 and NQ naturally apply here as well.) After hours, days, weeks, maybe even months of hard work, you've finally managed to get your hands on these awesome pieces of gear. Now to put them to good use!

Mr. Blue: "90% of the BLU on my server full-time these, so they must be great to TP in! Let me just add them to my macro-"

STOP!

Open up your inventory.

Place the cursor over the aforementioned item(s).

READ!

Everything sink in? Ok, let's move on.

I'm assuming that if you've been able to acquire these items, that you've leveled up BLU to around the level where you'd be able to equip them, or at least have a job high enough to be useful in farming them. What this means is that you should have a basic idea of how you're supposed to gear for certain things. Now I don't mean you have to know exactly how damage is calculated or anything else "advanced" like that but I'd expect you to at least know that if you're TPing, you should fill all of your slot with Haste, accuracy, attack etc.

Easy enough, right? It's common sense. These items offer no beneficial stats for TPing, so you shouldn't use them. Understand?

Mr. Blue: "no lol"

...ok let me make a simple real life analogy. Let's say you have to hammer a nail into the wall. You're obviously going to use something that useful for the task at hand, right? What would you use to hammer a nail into a wall? Hint: The answer is in the question.

Mr. Blue:
That's... no you'd use a hammer to hammer a nail into the wall... A hammer.

Mr. Blue: "tomato sauce!! :Q__"

Right, tomato sauce. Forget the analogy thing... Let's try this.

Scroll back up to the pictures of the gear. Read them again. Now do that thing you learned to do when you were little and take the words that your eyes have seen and send that information into your brain. If it's not processing automatically, it's ok to use a screwdriver. Phillips, not flat-head. Some of the words you should have read are:

Magic Accuracy
Magic Attack Bonus
INT
MND
Blue magic recast delay -
Occasionally augments blue magic spells
Enmity - (you can disregard this one cuz it's a fancy word)

Notice a trend? Now think about which stats are useful when you're swingificating your swords around:

Haste
Accuracy
Attack
STR
DEX

Now do that brain thing again. Do any of these stats match up? If you get confused or don't know, click the spoiler button for the answer.

With this is mind, we can come to the conclusion that, under no circumstances, should you have these items equipped while you're swinging swords. Make sense? Are you still gonna be TPing in these?

Mr. Blue: "yes lol"

asdadsfadsfadsfadssdfasd

Why? Why would you TP in this gear?! When you look at it, what about it screams "TP!"? I went over this so many times! There is NO excuse. None!

Mr. Blue: "fu they look cool"

No, they don't look cool. You look like a middle-eastern battle-hooker. When people check you and they read the stats, you will be labeled an idiot. Just physically seeing the gear on someone is like a big neon pink sign with an arrow pointing to you that says "Moron!".

Mr. Blue: "its my $12.95 a month and i do what i want"

So you're smart enough to be able to read your FFXI bill but you can't read stats and see that they're terrible? Stop shitting up our job. We're one of the most powerful jobs in the game when played right but we have a negative stigma because of stupid people like you.

Mr. Blue: "its +2 gear and i want to show it off and at least its not aurore"

Then wear it in town. Furthermore, at least the people wearing Aurore have proper gear in those slot. Sure, it's not the best gear but it shows that they at least know what stats benefit them as opposed to what stats do absolutely nothing.

Mr. Blue: "ur an elitist"

Well you're an idiot. Look, I don't expect everyone to have the best gear, as long as they have a brain about it. Get some Dusk Gloves and Ledelsens at least! Hell, like I said, even Aurore is better! You can get both from the AH and they're cheap as hell.

Mr. Blue: "i dont like the movement down from duck gloves"

Make a movement macro or at the very least switch to your spell gear when you run then.

Mr. Blue: "i dont swap gear lol"

Why am I not surprised? Just stop playing BLU already...

Mr. Blue: "tomato sauce!! :Q__"

Forget it.

I honestly think that Serpentes fits in more with the BLU AF3 than the boots and gloves do.

Makes me look like a blueberry.

So why do you care that these people choose to TP in this gear?

If people choose to gear blue mage badly, then why bother arguing with their gear?

I have to humbly disagree. I am not one of the fellows that does the maths, but it would seem to me that:

A. BLU typically is best utilized against EP-DC mobs, so the accuracy+ from AF3+2 head would be situational at best
B. 7 sword skill is a negligible bonus vs DEX/AGI+13
C. The haste is at worse equal and possibly 1% better with hq oce. head

No question to me which is better for TPing, I use AF3+2 head exclusively for Chain Affinity. If I'm wrong, I would be happy to see some proof.

Because I'm honestly fascinated with them. Not so much that it's BLU but just their whole thought process in general. At first it would make me mad but now I just kinda shake my head and throw my hands up. This is obviously a joke post but there's some seriousness behind it.

If you were, say, a football player and you're sitting there on the bench next to a teammate who's wearing dinner gloves and high heels, wouldn't you turn to him and be like, "What the hell are you wearing? How do you still have a job here?"?

Had a look at your tp set on here shouldnt be tping in mavi body ocelots gloves or mavi legs. Legs are spells only body is refresh macro only. Shouldnt judge others on their head tp piece choices until you have the best tp set there is. Mavi head looks so much better than ocelmehs head.

Edit: This post is to Cantontai not the OP just to make that clear.

You're not wrong at all. I think it's a matter of what stuff you happen to be fighting. I prefer AF3 head over Ocelomeh for the things I do.

Extra haste doesn't matter when you hit 26% with a proper set anyway.

I am unlucky enough to not have any thaumas gear yet, so my gear for the time being is this:

Serves me extremely well. I swap Mavi legs for Ocelot trousers on rare occasions. I'm at 27% haste so there are some changes I could make.

Well you should be aware there is a large age range across the game. There are children who play this game. When I went to FFXI festival I was shocked at how young people play FFXI. There are those who play just because they enjoy playing in certain gear. You shouldn't impede on their fun.

If you want to be selective you in your LS, NNI, VW shout, Legion group etc that's one thing. But if they aren't having an impact on your game play I fail to see the necessity.

TPing in Toci's and dusk +1 these days, but you do realize the difference between "best in slot" gear and "gear that is easily upgradable" right? Or do you not see the difference in difficulty between obataining Af3+3body and Thamaus Body, or Dusk gloves +1 versus Nomkahpa mittens? Also, last I heard Mavi Legs have STR/DEX+=8 and Haste +4%...if you have any upgrades to that besides Thaumas and Athos legs, I'd love to see you actually contribute to the post.

Thaumas is very easy to get you have almace blu you should be able to get a group very quickly but all you really need for nyzul isle is some commonsence and a brain. Cant exactly beat str+9 agi+9 acc+14 att+14 haste+6 for tping in plus it offers up more gear choices in other slots that traditionally would be used for haste. If you arent trying for thaumas you should be especially with you having almace. Yes i am being serious about af3+2 i think oce/toci just looks fugly and the acc is very nice for higher tier stuff.

Fair enough. I was just never the kind of kid that picked fashion over function. I could never understand that thought process, no matter how old I was but maybe it's just me. I agree that if it's not hurting me directly, it's none of my business and I wouldn't scream at some random guy that walked by in silly gear. But if the next day that guy shows up in the same VW PT as me with that same gear, then it starts to effect me.

This thread is about Blue Mages TPing in gear that has no applicable use for a TP set. Every BLU should obviously strive for Thaumas gear, but even a person new to BLU should be able to find better gear for their TP set than any of the Sword skill/MAB/INT/Macc gear mentioned in this thread.

And judging gear based on the looks should be reserved for town gear. IDGAF if my TP set looks goofy as long as it's the best gear I have access to.

Apparently sword skill isn't for TP. Heard it here, folks.

Sword skill adds both accuracy and attack. It's not WRONG to use a piece of gear with it, as much as you'd like to think so, because it is still along the line of melee. There are obvious exceptions (Mavi scarf, please don't TP in this), but to say that a hat with accuracy, sword skill, and equal haste to most other options is wrong is, quite simply, wrong.

I appreciate the point you are trying to make, and I certainly don't want to completely exclude skill+ gear from builds, but I don't know of any skill+ gear that is a viable alternative for even the most basic BLU TP build. But you know Mavi Scarf is a downgrade from an easily available item (rancor collar) already, so I'm not sure what else you could be suggesting.

I use AF3+2 head instead of Ocelomeh Headpiece +1 in my TP set.

(I know Mavi Thathlum isnt the best for TP but most other options are kinda underwhelming too, so I don't lose my sleep over it.)

I honestly feel like (judging from the description of the items), AF3+2 would be better for TPing instead of Ocelomeh+1.

I'm honestly curious to see if anyone that's good in math and run tests etc could solve this question.

No need for math to determine that Mantis Eye *** destroys Mavi Tathlum. So do White Tathlum and Smart Granade. Mavi Tathlum literally offers you nothing for TP.

As for Oce vs AF3+2, I have given my reasoning ITT already, but if you still doubt me by all means read Proth's BLU guide and the maths on BG, you will not find AF3+2>Oce Head anywhere I know of.

This thread is awesome. Although I'm guilty of the tathlum tping. Until I can play on PC I just can't fit ammo into equip macros. But you know not enough player demand for better macros according to glorious all knowing master game developers SE...

Not to mention mantis eye can be used for spell casting set since acc applies to physical spells. Lets face it blue doesnt get much ammo gear, str+2, blu skill+5, att+4 or acc+10.

IIRC you actually want to use Mavi Tathlum for physical blue spells because of the way blue magic damage is calculated. Eventually Night or Proth might show up with the maths, but I feel fairly confident about their sets compared to other options (since, you know, they do math).

That was for those that dont macro one or the other in during tp or spells they might as well get the benefit off acc+10 during tp and spell casting instead of keeping tathlum on during tp. Its math out that each spell has different tiers of dmg: when at different skill levels so come to think of it if you arent hitting the next dmg tier would be better to use a stat ammo or mantis eye. Not sure off the top of my head what skill levels the tiers are at for each spell.
