PS3 would be your best bet for any souls game, since that's where the "crowd" is since Demon's Souls was the ps3 exclusive and most of the community stayed on the platform.
PC might be okay when it finally gets released, but that depends greatly on how exploitive hackers can be. Cause as we all know, Zero hacking happens on Console, None what so ever.
Dark Souls pretty much had zero hacking on Steam, I'd only assume this stay the same if they keep most functions server side when you play online.
Basically, what I'm saying if you're playing on a Console you're doing it wrong.
superior frame rate, superior textures, superior loading, whats not to love?
I dont know, I actually find the kind of low-fi gritty look of the ps3 version somewhat endearing. The pc version is like playing a juiced up emulated version of an old console favorite and it sort of loses its charm.
What makes DS great is the gameplay, Hyperdetailed texture packs and insane high resolution doesn't dramatically improve the experience for me. The Hell? You like it... looking... worse? Does not compute. Well even if you weren't a graphics ***, I'm imagine the PC version would be a winner just for not having a frame rate that jumps all over the place like a kid with ADHD, but hey, whatever yanks your chain.
I mean with the PC version you can turn it down to 1280x720 and put everything to Medium and enforce V-Sync to if you wanted to get that 'PS3' feel to it :P I don't have framerate problems on either system.
PC looks superior but the gameplay is what makes the game. If you're the type of person that needs something to look "good" you can use DSFix, HD texture packs, distant object enhancements and plants replaced to look HD enough for you.
I don't really care how it looks tho, a game should never be about it's visuals, visuals are only the frosting to a game and if the cake is dense and dry no amount of frosting will make it taste better.

the pc version of dark souls was technically only 720p upscaled, aka the ps3 version.
the only real way to make dark souls look the way it should on pc are workarounds and mods, which can easily turn some people away.

With the HD Texture pack and DSFix you can still have it look like a lore friendly Dark Souls.
The grainy look/feel can still be preserved if you set everything up in a specific way and choose the correct texture packs to use. (They have different versions for your preference.)
Are they needed to play the game? No. Though, in my preference, if I can make the game look better I will.
The biggest reason I'm an advocate of at least using DSFix is for the simple sake of actually having full control over your game settings. Things like HUD size/scaling, variable FPS caps, actual Anti-Aliasing settings (doesn't remove grainy. Fixes the jagged edges that are everywhere on objects).
And many other little QoL settings that the developers left out on the rushed port.
I played it on PC for a while without any of it, and it was okay. Was it unplayable? Nope. (Unless you tried playing with a keyboard xD)
I'll take a few screenshots next time I'm in game.
Oh, greatest single texture change/mod ever. The fixing of the lava! No more instant cornea disintegration! (Completely separate little mod)

The slight problem I have that I'm pretty sure is unrelated:
When about to fight Quelaag. Right before you get to her fog wall, just passed the two egg carriers (in that little area between the fog wall and the egg carriers). My game will stutter horrendously usually causing it to kick me back to title screen.
All I have to do now is load the game again (don't even need to restart game) and it is all fine.

I thought id Add my opinion regarding which console is a better choice to play on.
personally i have only played on pc and xbox 360
and while i have run into hackers on xbox i personally find pc is much worse for hacked stats ect and to add to this i find most pvp on darksouls (xbox) is very honorable in the sense that even invading players tend to wait until you are ready to fight before engaging and often do a little routine of
wave
praise the sun
bow
raise shield (this means they are ready)
and usually they wait until you raise your shield before engaging.
Personally i have played hundreds of hours of darksouls on xbox and can attest to in my opinion it being the best choice for the full darksouls experience.
Would love to add any xbox players who are either going to be playing darksouls (£3.75 on xbl right now) or darksouls 2 which i will certainly be buying aswell.
My xbl gamertag : boltonwanderer

Perhaps you've seen it. Maybe in a dream...'
The past, the future, even the light...
When the shadow carves its seal in man, they say it steals everything from him. In the end, it takes even memories of what he has lost.
It leaves him a beast, hungry for spirits, called "Hollow" by the living.
Far, far in the north, beyond walls, lies the lost kingdom of Drangleic.
There they say lies the power to restore the minds of the lost: the Souls.
One touched by the shadow will find himself at the rusted, ruined gates of that land...
As were a gnat drawn helplessly into the flames...
"This Land will devour Thee without Mercy."
The acclaimed worldbuilding of Dark Souls returns. Through item descriptions and NPC conversations, players will slowly unravel Drangleic's many mysteries. Dark Souls's peculiar brand of fragmentary storytelling will again set the player's imagination ablaze.
###Dark Sign
A seal that appears on the undead. Bearers of the sign will ultimately lose everything and become hollow.
### Hollows
Undead who have lost their sense of self, who now hunt relentlessly for souls. They are human no more.
### Souls
The source of all life. According to legend, they can restore the sanity of the cursed. All undead, even when hollow, instinctively seek them.
### Drangleic
Once a prosperous land, now fallen into dismal ruin. Here is the setting of the game.
### Human Figurine
A soft, warm, shadow-colored idol of a man. With it you can turn from a hollow to human aspect. Its appearance seems to vary depending on the perceiver.
### Estus Flasks
Green glass bottles made sometime in the murky past. Filled at bonfires, drinking one will restore strength.
They seem related to the fires that burn in the land of the undead, but the truth of this matter is no longer known.
### White Sign Soapstone
Using this stone, you can be summoned in incorporeal form to help the master of another world.
In this land where the flow of time stagnates and falters, the stone is a useful tool for helping other travelers.
### Cracked Red Eye Orb
Using this orb, those tempted into ruin by the shadow can invade other worlds.
### Soul Vessel
A vessel where one can entrust souls by draining them from the body. If one wishes to redo everying, he should try emptying his souls into the vessel.
### Pharos Stone
Activates devices left behind by the wanderer Pharos. According to legend, Pharos traveled across many lands, leaving aid behind for those in need.
"We are Undying... or rather We cannot die."
In Dark Souls II, characters will sometimes aid, and sometimes oppose the player. In this cursed land, what are they directing you towards? Heed their advice with the utmost caution.
Characters drifting through this rotting world
Mysterious Hags and their Maid Millibeth
Three crones whisper out to the player when he sets foot in Dragleic. Under the care of Millibeth, who are they? What do they have to say...?
The Green-Clad Pilgrim
A mysterious girl in green robes. She serves as a guide to player in Drangleic.
The Peddler Merentira
One of scant few survivors of the peoples of Drangleic. Unfortunately he now seems half mad.
Having lost his home, he wanders with everything he owns on his back.
Blacksmith Renegatt
A cursed undead smith. Though his body has fully died, memory of his daughter and his craft remains. He can fix and reinforce your weapons and armor.
Armor Dealer Mafmuran
A merchant hailing for western kingdom of Bourgen. After many years dealing abroad, he's somehow ended up in Drangleic. The meager buisiness here is depressing him.
Lucatiel of Mira
A warrior of Mira. Despite humble birth, he came close to knighthood through great feats of arms on the battlefield. Then the mark of curse took him. He has come to Drangleic seeking a cure.
Blue Knight Grindock
A religious seeker, this knight's stout faith guides strict principles that he enforces on himself and expects of others. Despite admirable devotion to his sacred mission, he may perhaps be accused of narrow-mindedness.
"Bearer of the Curse Seek your Misery."
In Dark Souls II, players taking the role of a cursed undead alight on a ruined land. To break the curse, they must endure many hardships and confront their own fate.
Journey to a land of chaos
Dark Souls II features a huge and continuous gameworld. The player can walk from anywhere to anywhere.
Using open world design, Dark Souls II lets the player navigate freely through the complicated three-dimensional regions in a flexible manner. The game can be beaten in many ways, whether players follow the preordained order of objectives or strike their own path.
Thrilling and strategic combat
While exploring you'll encounter monsters and engage in vicious combat. Learn their movements and look for an opening. Lose focus and you'll die in an instant.
We've changed all the monsters, improved melee and magical combat, and added a new dual-wielding system for more realistic and intense combat.
Human and Hollow forms
When players die in the game, they turn from human to hollow form. All collected souls remain on the spot of death, and players return to the last bonfire they rested at.
If players die again in hollow form, their hollowing level increases and their maximum HP gradually decreases. Use the human figurine to unhollow.
Souls lost upon death will stay in a pool of blood where you fell. You can return there to reclaim them.
But if you die before retrieving them, the pool of blood will disappear.
Brief rest at bonfires
Given the real-time gameworld and its dangers, players need some place of respite. These are bonfires. At bonfires, health and magical casting ability are restored, and the player can prepare for the journey ahead.
Bonfire Uses
* Restore HP and Ability uses
* Change spells
* Warp between bonfires
* Recovery point after death
* Respawns enemies
"Over There... Art Thou in Need of Succour?
To enrich Dark Souls II's single player experience, one can engage in the series' unique online component. Doing away with any unnecessary communication and technical details, the game automatically connects interested players.
Supplement single player with an asynchronous online experience
### Phantoms
If other players are playing around the same time, you'll see momentary ghostly forms. How they act may give you hints about the dangers ahead.
### Blood Splatters
When a player dies their last moments are recorded online. If you touch a pool of blood, you'll see that memory and might guess what killed them.
### Messages
Players can leave messages as hints. Others players read and rate them, restoring your health.
Satisfying duels and player cooperation
## Summoning
Using the White Sign Soapstone, you can set a summon sign, letting other players invite you to join their world in incorporeal form.
Conversely, if you see a summon sign on the floor, you can invite an online player to assist you.
Up to three players can cooperate at a time.
## Invading
Using the Cracked Red Eye Orb, you can invade another player's world as a wraith and fight them in PVP combat.
"Pilgrims, Servants of the Gods... They shall aid Thee."
In Dark Souls II, players can experience the game with a set playstyle. For multiplayer, they accept contracts that force them to interact and roleplay according to predetermined rules.
Contracts that assign roles in multiplayer
Dark Souls II contracts aim to increase the immersion of online PVP and co-op. By fulfilling their assigned game roles, players make simple matchmaking battles conform to the setting and story of the game.
Contracts exist for a wide variety of playstyles, including secret ones that players may find hidden in the game.
You can find and accept contracts by talking to certain NPCs.
The Azure Faithful
A sacred pact with the Azure gods. When attackers invade the world of the Azure Faithful, servants of the gods (the Azure Guardians) will fly to their aid.
The Azure Guardians
A sacred pledge of service to the Azure gods. When attackers invade the world of an Azure Faithful, Azure Guardians are automatically summoned to aid them. This contract also allows the guardian pass judgement on sinners, invading their worlds.
Reliable allies to the Azure Faithful
Invading the world of the wicked
The Blood Brethren
A contract for the bloodthirsty. Those bound by this contract invade the worlds of other players and kill them. Making one an enemy of the Azure Guardians, this contract is best for PVP-focused players.
Battle between two wraiths
Invading the world
of another player
The Warriors of Sunlight
Returning from the previous game, a convenant for sun worshippers. In this dark world, their golden countenance shines even brighter.
Yes, that pose is back
A trustworthy, grossly incadescant spirit
YAY :3
The Bell Keepers
Protectors of an ancient pair of bells. When an intruder dares invade a certain location, Keepers will be automatically summoned to protect the bells.
A Bell Keeper blocks an intruder's way
Many more contracts exist in the game. Be sure to keep an eye out for them.

Dark Souls II: FromSoftware’s Plan to Make It The Best Game of PS3 and 360 Generation
When the co-director Yui Tanimura described its new version from the Dark Fantasy Soul series as “accessible”, everybody misunderstood what he meant. While the team of developers FromSoftware and publisher Namco Bandai tried to prove that the Dark Souls II will be as least as difficult as Demon’s Souls, the producer Takeshi Miyazoe actually explained:” “It’s about streamlining, cutting off a lot of fat. That is what we were trying to say, but we used the word ‘accessible’ in a casual manner, I think.”
They didn’t plan to make the game easier, but to make it less frustrating for the new fans. Miyazoe adds:
Dark Souls isn’t really a game that’s going to hold anybody’s hand. But it’s not impossible. Just take your time, try to pay attention to the surroundings, be patient and continue to challenge yourself. From a technical standpoint, what we’re trying to do is ensure that you understand what mistake you have made. I think the new engine, the new motion [capture], the new visuals – everything that has been enhanced will help the player better understand that.
Working with a budget that is mucg bigger than before, the studio aims to please the audience from all points of view. To reach this goal, production has been split in two parts: Tanimura will direct the battle mechanics and gameplay, and Tomohiro Shibuya will improve the design. The fans’ feedback was overwhelming, the only complaint was about the darkness in the woods which makes their progress harder. They can choose from carrying a torch in their left hand or carry a shield for protection, but not both in the same time.
“I don’t think that we’re going to make it any brighter, but we do understand that there are dark areas,”declares Miyazoe. “The cave is pretty much pitch black if you don’t have a torch, but that’s part of the gameplay as well. After playing it ten or 20 times, you’ll start to memorise how the path goes and then you won’t need a torch.”
Another point that needs to be fixed is the framerate. Miyazoe confirms that it will be fixed at 30fps on PS3 and 360, and maybe a little higher on PC, when released.“If it’s far in the distance, we might just leave it,” tells Takeshi. “If it’s very crucial to the gameplay, we will definitely fix it. The visuals have improved a lot from Dark Souls, and we want to capitalise on that.”

To me Dark souls/Demon's souls are the games of this generation all From Soft have to do is improve Co-op and PVP (connection wise) while keeping the quality the same and it will be the best game of the ps3/360 generation.
All 360/ps3 really did do was make a lot of fps which weren't bad but was just upgrades off old fps and pc fps outside that the only good unique stuff I saw was Minecraft, Souls series and some indie games.
Well, FFXIII was unique in filling your screen with more numbers than there is in a math book.
Also the Stormruler Sword fight in Demon's souls imo is one of the best boss fights ever.

Also, is it just me, or is Demon's Souls more difficult than Dark Souls? :O I found demon souls more difficult initially but that it got easier as it went since you can farm full heal items super easy after beating the penetrater(?) boss, the third one in the castle area whos name I can't remember. Dark souls started off easier but pushed me more later on and was overall less forgiving.

I don't know lol, I'm not there yet. So far I've beaten Phalanx, Tower Knight, Armored Spider, Uhm the Leech body one, the fat one with cleavers, and the False Idol.
I'm trying to get to the 2nd boss in the Tower of Latria, because the area hasn't been really all that challenging. The game is getting easier as I go, but I just mean... in Dark Souls with a few exceptions, there are very few bosses I feel that dictate how you must approach them and what your strengths should be. In Demon's Souls I've already encountered bosses that force me to take a certain approach. The Armored Spider I can't imagine taking on with a bow or magic. You also almost can't get through it without a good shield(blocks 100% physical and >40% magical). If I didn't find the Cling Ring, then the Soulflayers in the Tower of Latria would one shot me if I ever let them paralyze me. That and whether you beat the first boss or not, you still get forced to die.
I do love all the Lovecraftian themes present though. It feels like I'm playing through an HP Lovecraft novel!
