I normally wouldn't post any Windower news since they do come over to this forum quite often to let us know what is going on, but I thought it would be a good idea to make a post of this here and help get the word out since it has been a topic of discussion lately.

Now this has already happened. We like most others believe this is in preparation for the UI update. Radec will have a fix for this on his radsources soon.

At this time the XI view project needs a new person to resume work. However, with the new UI changes, there might be more to do than what was originally required. Damage to Windower

This is what many of you feared the most. The thing is, we don't know what will happen until it happens. But you can rest assure we do have a plan. The test server will probably be the only way to test this out before its finalized.

We will keep you informed when we learn more. You can however contribute in using the test server when the time comes or taking the XI view project to a whole new level.

I wouldn't be. Windower will be around in some capacity or another as long as SE leaves the servers on. It is just a matter of people with the knowledge or desire to learn what is needed to step up and support the toys they have used for all these years. IMO of course.

I do hope that people with the knowledge do step forward to help improve Windower is any way.

It'd be a shame to see such a amazing program that probably all PC users use, just disappear due to not enough people working on it. I can just about live playing FFXI with there original icons, font and the none 'HD' feel I got when using XI View.

Will help out with whatever I can; I'm not the greatest by any means but if all you need me to do is sanity check a few files and run it on a test, I'll be glad to.

I would hope no one complains, trolls, flames, or just plain *** to the guys at Windower. They do more than most people in the game that use their service would ever understand and I'm sure spend more hours per week on it than some do with a job.

It's going to break, they know this, we know this -- just keep you shirt on when it happens! If you can't handle playing without it or helping them fix it, go play Diablo 3 until we fix it. Trolling will not help unless you have something constructive to contribute or a new funny lolcat.jpg :-P

I made a topic asking the same thing, there is a workaround for it atm that they use instead.

I would love to see official support for it soon though, I can't get it to work at all myself but others have success with it.

I can't recall any real *** sessions at the windower developers and caretakers, and feel confident the community will keep that track record.

Have faith. Honestly. They're keeping the old UI as an option as well, so its possible (maybe?) that version may work from the start.

I thought the major concern was the people that did a lot of coding, etc for windower left a long time ago so some fixed might take a long time to find and fix.

So, I'm confused. Will FFXI have a better macro system built in when this update occurs? And if so, when is this update? I'm not smart enough to use SpellCast so I'm hoping we just get more macro lines.lol

As far as I'm aware, no more macro-lines will be put in.

Edit: Also, dont need to be very smart to use spellcast :P
Most people are just scared of it because it SEEMS complicated.
The codes are very very simple and explain themselves fairly well, like:

<if spell="stoneskin">
<equip when="precast" set="fastcast">
<equip when="midcast" set="stoneskin">
</if>

Take a guess at what that does. :p

But also, you don't have to use spellcast to gain a benefit from the macro system in windower, you can make .txt files which basicly simulate a macro-slot with "unlimited" lines.

Well some early good news for everyone.

As many of you know, we have sucessfully switched to our new server. This is the first step in getting windower updated to the next version. We also did some restaffing and added 2 new plugin devs to the team and moved one up to be a core dev. I cant give names yet but I plan on it as soon as they finish their works.

XI view has a new maintainer as well. However its now a group effort in the HDing the icons process. If you have any talent in making the old SE status Icons into HD, go look for XI view on the windower forums.

There is also 2 secrets being worked on and or planned in the near future that windower and some other parties are involved in. In due time will that be revealed.

Alot of interest has been renewed thx to the announcement of SoA. The ball is now rolling again and I hope you all continue to support windower even after all these changes promised by SE.

PS: yea after all Ive done for the community in the past 9 years, I think I deserve that purple bar now guys. *wink*
