[Dev] FINAL FANTASY XI 2012 Roadmap
Wow this roadmap is completely uninspiring. Only thing interesting to me is the new Avatar, and the crafting/guild store speed ups (which are like 8 years overdue. Unless something is announced at Vanafest like an expansion, PvP, or HNM with windows (anything with a shred of competition plz!) I doubt I will reactivate till September. Then will only be to get Cait Sith, and do some crafting.
Certianly looks as if they intend to neglect XI, and instead throw everything they can muster at XIV to plug the holes in a leaky ship. GL with that I guess. For christ sake, KI the damn porter moogle slips already jesus!
majority of the plugs have been sealed up actually. im enjoying ffxiv

Quite a few things on there I'm looking forward to, although I agree with many points posted.
Also very vague roadmap, seems anything listed can come out at any point throughout the year. Odin.Treymok said: » Your entire life is irrelevant. It was irrelevant to you being a moron... I can cap out all 20 of my jobs in a few days. I've been busy with other things, but it doesn't change the fact that I'd destroy you even at 95.
Awhhhh nothing new for gardening ; ;
Odin.Treymok said: » OK I am going to go back to doing something you obviously know nothing about, playing the game.... Take care and if you come up with a valid insult/retort feel free to PM me. I'm sure no one else here cares to see you blow hot air out your mouth. ITT: Endless bitching.
I'm personally interested to see what they do with the Dungeon Crawl system. Hopefully they learn from the past and don't set ridiculous limits on it. Play as a monster addition? Yesss... I can finally relive my Everquest 1 days of *** with lowbies as a skeleton. :D

This begs the question, If the core of the last 2 years of content did not bring you enjoyment or fulfillment, Why did you continue playing? If you did continue playing that is. Its really a rhetorical question cause the answer would almost certainly be "Hopeless addiction". We've all been there. FFXI was really our Favorite MMO, for most of us... Letting it go is tough. But I don't forsee any drastic changes coming that will suddenly revive the game to be as enjoyable as one used to have. Because its not about the content, frankly, FFXI has always had awful time-sink content, Its just you ignored it because you had friends, and what have you. Or you were younger and didn't care as much about mindless time-sinks. That and it was all new to you, exciting in its own right. So long story short, i severely doubt if you're so disinterested and unenjoyed in the current core content within the last 2-3 years, That anything added is going to suddenly excite you to no end for more than 1 week after its release. you need to seriously sit down and consider quitting, if you already haven't. Because like me, You need to realize its not really a problem with the game entirely, Its that you've just out-grown the game. Its like eatting your favorite pizza for 8 Years, Eventually you're going to sick of it, and no matter how you mix it up, at its core, its still pizza, and you're still going to go "I want something else..." after eating it. Hopefully that analogy wasn't as confusing as i thought it was. Phoenix.Sehachan said: » Phoenix.Baelorn said: » ITT: Endless bitching. Not saying you can't complain but damn. Four pages in and there's only a handful of posts regarding the actual content of the OP. just a long "mheeeeee" *sigh*
New expan, new ideas, being able to play new races like beastman. More jobs with different magic spells like bluemage that don't use the same white/black magic system. New storyline, real pvp.

Hopefully that analogy wasn't as confusing as i thought it was. I quit the day Skyrim came out, so at most I witnessed the rise and fall of the Abyssea, which significantly changed the pace and cycle of gameplay, along with the advent of Voidwatch. It was around then I came to terms that the well had run dry for FFXI. The mini expansions were a nice change of pace for me despite their lightweight and underwritten nature; as the conclusion of WotG was up there with Half-Life Episode 3 in terms of expectation of release. But I should have taken a hint that, in all probability, that was the most I was going to get out of the game in this current timeline. As rehashing existing content, and fixing past mistakes was more convenient and cost effective to stretching out the dollar for the existing devotee player base, than directly appealing to the things that made us love the game in the first place. FFXI for me will likely forever remain my favorite (albeit not last) MMO for the simple fact that nothing else measured up in terms of charm and fleeting attention to detail in parts that more often than not are overlooked by conventional MMO players. The atmosphere, lore, score and overall variety in playable classes and gameplay therein combined with the social interaction of like minded individuals; some of which I would consider more dear friends than those closer to me in real life, all made this my game of choice for over eight years. And to this day I am at ends with my rose-tinted nostalgia glass vision and the weight of reality and the current stasis of the game. I want to come back for the sake of being a part of it, but alas, it would be akin to dating an ex-girlfriend: sentimental fulfillment guised as novelty. Nothing more, sadly. But to answer your question: It wasn't necessarily hope or wishful thinking that SE would go out and appeal to the things that made me love FFXI, but rather the gripping fealty to something I had loved and cherished for so long, and for so many legitimate reasons, while slowly being weighed down by reality, and acknowledging the truth that beauty and luster fades, and changes are made to the swinging pendulums of time. |
