I looked on google for a solution to my problem and I found this post that is similar on Logmein's community site:

First off, i got this to do simple tasks in ffxi while im about or at work. i use windows 7, and an aero theme on both my computer and laptop. When i connect via logmein, the screen flicks for a split second and the game crashes, and it takes a long time to get back in.

i noticed while connected, the desktop reverts to a basic windows 7 theme, so on my computer, i switched the theme to basic, and the problem was solved, i could keep connecting via logmein no problem, no crashes, but this did NOT work for my laptop. last night i rebooted my computer, and the crashes started happening again on the PC,

please help, i cant figure out how to soften or remove that half second flicker.
..

Essentially, here's what I would like to do:
1)Log onto my home PC using logmein, while at work.
2)Join party in game
3)log off of home PC without disconnecting from FFXI
4) ???
5) profit

The problem that I have is that if I log into my home pc from work it does the "screen flicker" and crashes POL (even with windower). I haven't yet tried logging in after I connect to my home pc (which would require taking token to and from work), but I am afraid that it will do the same "flicker" when I disconnect from home PC as well.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Can someone provide me an adequate solution? I am allowed many indulgences at my job, but installing an 8 gigebyte game and staying logged in the entire work day is not one of them.

I'll be your bff if you help me out T.T

Install the streaming app, setup your google/gmail account so that internet discovery is enabled. The application is amazing...one of the few remote desktop solutions that offer audio over IP and it will not crash POL as you mentioned above. Additionally there is a mobile version that works on Web OS, Android OS and iOS if you arent in front of a PC.

I am intrigued. Does this require software to be installed on either or both PCs? I cant have anything installed on the Work PC.

Also, what does this program run me?

Unfortunately you would need to install the client on both workstations. But I bet you could try to install the app to a USB drive and just remove the drive when you leave work. The app is light weight so it doesn't kill resources either. One other option is to install the app on your work workstation and uninstall it daily...scrub the registry if your company scans for unauthorized software etc.

Edit: The application is free for desktop computers, but if you want it on a tablet or phone you will need to pay $1-$5 it goes on sale a lot.

Pretty sure teamviwer ( which is free ) can do this. You don't even have to install it. There's an option where you can just 'run' and it will just work as it runs. But you do have to have the application on both computers.

I'll have to look into them both. The reason I was inclined to use Logmein is that it's already installed at work.

I just wanted to follow up with anyone else this thread interested and say that this above suggestion has worked out great for me. Between Splashtop on my work PC and my Android phone, with my guildwork remote chat, I can accomplish quite a bit during breaktime/lunch at work. Thanks for the help everyone :D

actually i think that post on logmein's site was me. this is what i did. go to your device manager under graphics and remove logmein's mirror driver thing completely. then when youre in logmein's settings page (before using remote connection) uncheck "Disable wallpaper and user interface effects on host computer "

but note if you have an aero theme, its going to be unbearably slow, yes, even slower than it already is

(i need to check out that splash thing to see how it works, is it a higher fps than logmein?)

Would be really interested in knowing if the fps is higher on any of these other apps?

Currently I'm using teamviewer to connect home from iphone/desktop at work. Great for crafting, even some aby parties with friends where i can just /assist and /follow etc. but if the others are higher ftp would be alot nicer cosmetically.

I ended up turning off Aero when i was out, as the connect flicker would kill pol more often than not, and it also killed the ftp

Hanabira just asked me this in PM. I just checked from my shitty work PC and was getting 27-28 fps in a cleave party.

I worked very hard to get myself into a position where I can spare a couple of minutes a day to multi-task while I work. I work hand in hand with the owner of my company (who coincidentally sits right next to me and is aware that I take occaisional "me time"). If I get my work done and all our quotes/sales processed, he doesn't care as long as productivity doesn't drop.

Being that this month is record sales, I doubt he minds me taking 20 seconds to check my FPS in game XD. I do appreciate your concern for my work ethic though; I assure you I only "fart around" when there is nothing else that i could be doing to make the company money.

how would you check your fps of the remote instance? if you check your windower fps, it'll show you what the host is running at, it tells me 29fps, but i think its running at more like 4-7, with a second or 2 delay with keypresses and releases. BUT, i still think it is smoother than logmein (i believe to be more like (.5-2), although i like that logmein lets you adjust the color count and clarity to further adjust your fps.

so if youre trying to actively fight and such, youre going to have a hard time with a remote solution, but if youre botting or crafting/ah'ing, it works perfectly well.

I have no frame loss. The only delay I have is pinging from work to .... wherever works ISP is, then my homes ISP, then back out, then to SE etc etc gives me that delay. I could function like that personally but I wouldnt recommend being part of the stun order XD
