Picard but I don't think anyone has done a terrible job of portraying a starship captain. They all have pros and cons.
Just don't remind me of those TNG movies.
Plus all the memes that are derived from TNG tip my hat in Picard's favor. I guess growing up on that series counts for something as well.

I would suggest to everyone here that you all watch a documentary on netflix right now called "The Captains". It's done by Shatner, where he talks to each of the actors who played Captains, from himself through Chris Pine. Each talks about their personal acting background, and personal experiences and discoveries while filming their shows. It's a really good watch
