True, but how much of that bitching is simply over the superficial aspects of life? I mean, how many of us can really sit in a moment of solitary introspection and tell ourselves that our life is terrible without feeling like a total ingrate and jackass?
I suppose many fail to have the foresight to realize that self-proclaimed (and often times self-inflicted) misery is indeed selfish.
It took an understanding, empathy and sense of obligation towards others to pull myself out of my teenage phase of brooding self-pity.

That's what I said at the beginning of the thread. It's an oxymoron. I wouldn't want to anyway. Not having to be anywhere on Sunday is one of the reasons I like not being a Catholic anymore >_>.

Hard to live my life when every day I'm tasked with seeing my rights stripped by theists who believe they're carrying out the will of their deity. They aren't satisfied with the everlasting life they're locked in to receive. They must distort separation of church and state and put down anyone they feel isn't in line.
Bad enough most of them can't help but jump to "I'll pray for you" when you reject their offers of salvation but the hatespeech is cranked up to 12 in the US when you make the simple request to be left alone or challenge scripture.
I won't even go into the virtual swamp Islam is with regards to any criticisms. Not even the moderates who believe it want to denounce their extremist counterparts.

As much as I like the idea of "a place for doing anything that is good", it still kinda baffles me why the necessity bringing a non-position to a certain position.
I've watched some theists vs atheists debates in these recent months. I think they shouldn't be seen as if both sides have something to argue and to defend. It's about theists necessitate the claims of the supernatural being(s) and atheists to stay unaffected by such claims.

Where they are allowed to attack peaceful, God loving people simply because they don't share the same belief as them. Once again, that makes you no better than the Westboro Baptist Church.

While it's an obvious exaggeration, it's not as far off as you might think. :-( (Now admittedly I live quite close to Utah, which is Mormon Central, as well as in a very conservative state. Also admittedly, a lot of my problems with religion stem from family issues, not issues with religious strangers.)
In my hometown you might not even be able to get a job unless you are Mormon.
My state never, ever votes for a Democrat in presidential elections.
More than one teacher in high school only recommended scholarships for students who claimed to be going to Brigham Young University when they graduated, and refused to write letters of recommendation or the like for students who wanted to go to secular colleges.
I had one cousin (on my father's side), ever, who came clean to the family about not believing in the family religion. He was disowned.
(Now do keep in mind that I have a cousin on my Mama's side that claims to be "Not religious, but spiritual." She is accepted perfectly fine. However, she also works as an assistant manager at a Christian old folks' home.)
My college town has a grand total of two billboards that advertise for Humanists. One said "Millions are good without God." and the other said "Think before you believe." They were both vandalized multiple times, and have received enough threats that whenever people go to un-do the vandalism or replace the billboards because of the vandalism, security details have to be present. (Never once has a Christian billboard in this town been vandalized.) I'll post an article that says more about this at the bottom of this post.

2. You clearly missed the point. Nothing you offered there is proof, just a bunch of references to other people's ideas and beliefs on it. I want empirical proof. Until you can provide it, you have nothing more than a belief. Which makes you the same foolish and illogical person as the religious person you put down.

Understood, Leila. I won't deny that the religious community has pull in small towns. Baptists were out in droves during HS. They're probably as annoying as it gets here.
Anyhow, I'm still struggling to put a cohesive thought together this afternoon, so I'm pretty much just jokes today. Didn't mean to offend. :)
