It freezes up my browsers so that is really why I'm asking for advice otherwise I would try an online guide. I can still DL anything but can't seem to run any exe. I get the feeling Safe Mode and I will meet again!

Yeah I was trying to read stuff like that and it says DL something something, registry something something, Windows HOSTS files something something. Freezes up and I can't get through it all.

You should still be able to use your browser in safe mode just enter it and download the file. If all else fails enter safe mode and do a system restore to a month ago.

It's ok... (tease)

As to the problem, if you can't get any .exe to run, first try renaming it to .com or .bat

If that doesn't work, then you and safe mode are going to have to be reunited.

If you have another user account on your computer then you can log in to it. Most viruses will stay on the local user. Once you are over there either download that file or run an antivirus scan. Once the threat is removed you can log back in as your normal user. Often times removing viruses will have adverse effects. One of the most common is corrupting your file association so you can't open anything and everything asks you what to do. You can fix this by recreating your profile. If you have XP you can just rename your old profile and log back in. That will generally repair most of the damage and you can manually transfer any data you need. If you have vista or 7 then I'm not sure how to do it. A restore point, as suggested earlier, might be the best route.

Thank you, nothing worked except System Restore. I've had to remove this stuff last year on other PCs and it was really easy. I thought the same method would work again but this years rogue anti-virus is crazy.

might sound like a mission impossible, but there is this malware/virus that makes your computer go at war with the worlds and one shot your computer down.

ok ok seriously now, how much computer control do you have?
do you have something like ccleaner, malwarebites or search & destroy? id scan your computer non stop, rebooting after each process is complete.
can you do a system restore to a date before everything acted up?

Guessing you already fixed it but first thing I usually do is:
(I used to work IT, so I had to deal with viruses a lot.. :/)

msconfig in run - go to startup tab and get rid of everything suspicious. If you don't know what it is, you can CTRL+ALT+DEL->Task Manager and click on the program and "Go To Process". It will show you the process name and maybe the executable it came from. You can disable the startup process in msconfig and then delete the executable.

Of course there are viruses that disable CTRL+ALT+DEL and msconfig, so you are forced to go into safe mode. It takes a good deal of "fiddling" to destroy it. And some can't be deleted so easily and require more effort or Malwarebytes/Combofix.

After I got out of IT, I just switched my computers over to Linux so I would never have to deal with another virus again.

I thought about Linux but I probably shouldn't until I learn a lot more, I fixed it with the system restore but thanks. I can always use this thread for future reference when it happens again.
