Hey OP,
I read through your original message and some of the responses that people have left you. First, I'd like to say that I do agree with the ones who think maybe you are trying to hard. Your situation reminds me of my brother honestly. He wants so much to be with someone and is constantly trying to find that special someone. Honestly, the harder you try to find someone the more likely you are to miss the right person I think.
Just let it come to you, don't try so hard. Instead of worrying so much about finding someone, work more on yourself and how you present yourself. Don't be afraid of who you are. So what if you are a nerd. There's nothing wrong with that. The right person will not only accept it, but embrace that about you. Trust me on that one.
If you are not a confident person, then fake it as was mentioned to you. To do that be confident in the things you know or do. If your meeting woman on the internet more then in person it should be a little easier to fake.
Again, because this is the most important thing, just be yourself. Don't over think situations. Remember this is a busy time of year. When you get to that 3rd back and fourth or so message, try to be bold. You need to say or do something original to set yourself apart. Remember your probably looking at a 3 to 1 ration of men to woman on dating sites. She's probably getting constant messages to weed through. Just like applying for a job, when you produce your resume you have to do something to set yourself apart. (This comes directly from my gf, one of the many things she has taught me.) If they are close enough to you ask them out for coffee or something. See if they would prefer texting or even some sore of messenger service.
Good luck and be patient. When you least expect it, is probably when you will find her and it is so worth the wait.

It seems all the girls where I live are all taken and the ones who aren't either don't want a relationship or some kind of other reason. Maybe I'll try dating in like 5 years when I'm 26 or so. :<

Yeah, I have no clue about dating sites. Due to the ratio of men to women, they probably quickly gloss over the guys they're not interested in. Not to mention the likely caliber of people who actually use those sites...(you excluded, of course)

It's an awesome thing to be proud of, you made it sound like you had to warn girls though, and you didn't seem prideful. I could've have just interpreted it wrong though.
You should take a trip to your local book store and comc shop a couple times a week. They're amazing places to meet people and take a first date. Watch what they look at, you can instantly tell so much about a person. Even more than you'd find out through online messages.
Also don't push a relationship, it's fine to push a friendship to a degree, but let the rest evoke naturally. They day I met my girlfriend she just broke up with the last bf and was going through a real tough time at home. I liked her a lot but I knew if I pushed anything I would lose it. Patience is a virtue.
