Hey guys,
I got a PS3 and Xbox360 controller that I'd like to use on my laptop.
I have Windows 7 64-bit and cant figure out how do this. I have done alot of step by steps and they still dont seem to work. They might be a little out dated. So if you can help me out the best way posssible that'd be awesome!

Not sure about PS3, but all I did with my 360 controller was plug it in (i'm assuming you mean wired) and it automatically searched (online) and installed drivers. If it doesn't you can search Microsoft website for the 360 controller drivers.

If it's a wireless controller, you need to buy a wireless receiver for like 10-15 dollars.

For Xbox 360 anyway. Don't know about PS3.

I don't remember where I heard but you might be able to connect a ps3 controller with a USB then assign the buttons. I'll give it a try later if I remember unless someone says I was BSed, been curious about it myself.

Motioninjoy does what Ina describes above. It is somewhat glitchy at least for me though and will sometimes reset your button allocations, sometimes midgame... which is extremely frustrating. Still good though (I use my Ps3 controller for emulators and the recent Sonic Generations for instance).

I use an ancient usb converter from radio shack for my ps2 controller. But the ps2 controllers are becoming increasingly rare and my wife and I go through them pretty quickly. Eventually, I'll probably have to figure out how to use a ps3 controller or deal with crappy used controllers. Though if I do use a ps3 controller, I'd prefer to make use of the wireless capacity.

here's a link how to set up motioninjoy (only scanned over it so idk how accurate it is)

http://forums.motioninjoy.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1419

I used to use my ps3 controller, even used it on bluetooth for a bit, but then it went screwy and I haven't fiddled with it in awhile.

I do know however that If I can get my hdmi port working again and virtualbox to run ffxi that I will be looking into it again.

have virtual box capture the one controller, and display on the extra screen, effectively be able to play two accounts with two controllers and two screens on one laptop.

too bad I have a lot of classwork to make up this week...

The outside casing is tough for certain but the buttons get worn out and start getting unresponsive. Particularly the d-pad, R2 and X buttons... After a while the analog stick will start making me edge forward because it gets loose.

One thing I'd kill for is the capacity for the controller to always be linked to the 'last active' FFXI window. If I'm just playing on one account, it works fine but when you open more than one windower will only send the controller data to the game if it is the active window. I often reference wiki and such and while the internet window is active, I'm unable to control either of my characters.

It does do that but from my experience it only occurs when the USB becomes disconnected for whatever reason. I think it resets the button allocations to default or something but to fix it you simply have start motionjoy(if it's already running, you'll have to close the program) and click "Enable" in the profiles tab. Your buttons should be back to how you set them up.

Official controllers? I still have/use my original ones I bough almost 10 years ago... and yeah that's what I've been having issues with and am trying to circumvent, will let you know how it goes.

I've used the same PS2 controllers since I got my PS2 way back in the day. No issues with it. I use the Super Joy Box 5 Pro adapter. I own two of them so I can have one on each desktop (or in this case, I have one, and Sav has the other on the laptop). Probably going to get a third eventually.

Yeah, official. They look just fine visually but I have this bad habit of pressing buttons too hard. Sometimes when I screw up or something I grip the controller so hard it creaks, but I do avoid throwing it...

If you find anything out, I'd love to hear about it.
