LoL of course he did. The gov isnt going to NOT give itself more power any time it has the chance.

And what is the public supposed to do? I heard that around the country in many cities some people tried standing up against injustices that they saw, and basically they were demonized by the rest of the country for not being part of their political clique.

This country is populated by ignorant fools, and to expect anything from them only makes you a fool as well.

Once about 98% of the populous has basically no personal freedoms left, and we all live on the brink of starvation and absolute desolation, Im sure they will try to do something then. They wont do it for the reasons that exist now, by then it will be a matter of survival.

Basically what Egypt is now.

I really don't get what all the fuss is about.

Nothing in the NDAA applies to citizens, or a "martial law". Hell, most of what you see people whining about was already a placed law (Public Law:Authorization for Use of Military Force September 18, 2001). And even in this case, it was used on two suspected al Qaeda terrorists back in 2004, and hasn't been used since (which if you read the law, is understandable why).

The NDAA doesn't expand the government’s detention authority. It really doesn't mandate the military detention of other terrorist suspects. But best of all... it doesn't authorize detention of citizens (in any way). However, it does make Obama's promise of closing Guantanamo Bay an impossibility for at least the next year.

And to all the "the Bill of Rights is dead" people: No federal statute can repeal the Bill of Rights. While I do agree that some of our rights are being squandered and/or taken away a bit at a time, this act plays no part in that.

Edit: Some Links~

The NDAA itself

A helpful guide as your reading the NDAA (or you can just read this if your lazy :)

"Pursuant to the AUMF passed in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, the NDAA text affirms the President's authority to detain, via the Armed Forces, any person "who was part of or substantially supported al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or associated forces," under the law of war, "without trial, until the end of hostilities." The text also authorizes trial by military tribunal, or "transfer to the custody or control of the person's country of origin," or transfer to "any other foreign country, or any other foreign entity."[13] An amendment to the Act that would have explicitly forbidden the indefinite detention of American citizens, without trial, was rejected"

Hey all, I figured you might be interested in this.
Remember I told you about writing to my Senators to protest the NDAA?
Well, I got a letter from Senator Burr's office in the mail today.
The following is excerpted from the letter I received:

"I understand that there have been many erroneous reports regarding sections 1021 and 1022 in the NDAA. These sections establish new requirements for military custody for foreign terrorists who are caught in a plot to attack the US. These provisions only apply to *foreign individuals* who are members of, or are substantially supporting al-Qaeda or any affiliated terrorist network, *and* who have participated in the planning, assisting, or carrying out of an attack or attempted attack against the US. Sections 1021 and 1022 explicitly exempt US citizens from all such military custody. The NDAA does not authorize the military to perform law enforcement functions; this is prohibited under the Posse Comitatus Act."

I hope this helps quell some of the conspiracy/paranoia theories.

that was just one of the volleys. your senator is correct in saying it doesn't apply to US citizens.....

but have you taken a look at the next bill up?

The Enemy Expatriation Act (H.R. 3166; S. 1698)
The president will have the authority to remove citizenship of individuals that support terrorism ('support' being broadly defined).

ipso facto you are NO LONGER a US citizen. enjoy Guantanamo.

Well, it was my understanding that a lot of the "uproar" about the NDAA was due to bloggers/media/paranoid-people believing the NDAA would authorize the military to swoop in and detain all the people participating in the "Occupy" street protests.

Clearly, the NDAA does not allow, authorize, or condone such an action.

That's what I was trying to get across to people.

A necro, I know, but wanted to share some additional details to anyone who was interested in this(NDAA).

Great news, really. Federal district Judge Katherine Forrest ruled in favor of plaintiffs who opposed the NDAA. More here.

The court basically found the NDAA imposing on 1st and 5th Amendment Rights.

Also, after looking at the previous post just wanted to say that contrary to what Elena has said, the NDAA does in fact allow indefinite detention of US citizens. The bill states that while it's required to imprison any foreigner linked with Al Queda or some other terrorist organization, it's completely optional to detain a US Citizen.

Multiple gunmen, Oswald was not alone.
Something, something grassy knoll.
CIA hit on the president.
One more step in the elusive scheming of the Illuminati.
Reptilian humans saw Kennedy as too powerful and took him out.
Kennedy isn't really dead.
Cuban assassination as lashback.
Kennedy was the victim of a mob hit.
Lyndon Johnson hated the Kennedy family and ordered conspired to have Kennedy assassinated to become president.
It was a soviet hit.

What's amusing is I knew half of these without going to Wikipedia. lol
