j/w...do these things have any other purpose aside from elemental resist?

I guess back in the day (Not sure now) but people were sayin Maat mimic'd your gear when u entered so gear with - effects or + effects to things was worn, I donno if they still do it but I remember being nakked when entering for maat lmao!

i allways enter maat fights nakid. Every time i do >.> i seem to have it easyer,
when i go in with gear, i lose <.<;

I believe they're rare? If so, they can't be augmented. I think I've heard of using them in PvP to increase resistance to certain enfeebling spells, although it seems like too great of a trade-off to me.
Pretty much only heard of them being used for elemental resist sets... ever
No offense, but that was kind of a stupid question. When a ring is named "Malflood Ring" wtf do you expect it to do?
idk they drop from NMs so i was expecting them to have SOME use other than being a complete waste of space...but then again over half of the gear in FFXI is just used to take up space
Anyone who says Elemental resistance is pointless has obviously never tanked Tiamat in Byakko's Haidate with their +50 Lightning Resist.
Elemental resistances go for enfeebling spells too. Which is why it absolutely sucks to have Paralyze on with SH and its -15 Ice resistance.

Never said it was pointless, iv seen the tanks in my endgame shell survive magic attacks from kirin while the rest of that area wipes due to his resist...but i was kind of hoping for something like a hidden effect +acc or something like smart grenade or something but..apparently not

This page has all the info on hidden and latent effects. If you do not see something here, then chances are it does not have a known latent effect.
I could be wrong, I've never fought Tiamat, or cared about him enough to read all that much into him.. but wouldn't Lightning +50 be pointless with Tiamat being "Fire based"? >.>

Not entirely true..SE has said there's a crapload of items that have hidden effects that we are unaware of, that are out there today. Most likely it's all crappy items that nobody uses.
