So, if Hippos are going to be a jug pet, would that mean that they might make them charmable as well?

Very unlikely. Thinking about it, the Hippogryph definitely has the potential to completely replace Yuly. Its DD capabilities will certainly be higher assuming it gets Hoof Volley. Very likely that it'll be a THF too, on top of Hippogryph's natural high evasion.
For whatever it can't tank, there's the turtle. I fully expect the jugs to be more difficult to make, however.

Whoa, this gave me an idea. They should totally make "ancient" jug pets. Made somehow by trading some NPC some 10% drop R/Ex drops from NMs. That'd be pretty awesome, then they could allow a couple of really strong pets since you wouldn't be able to use them just whenever.
