Here's the official fact sheet.
http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/american_literature_fact_sheet.pdf Quote: You should also read some of the major novels that are mentioned or excerpted in the anthologies, such as Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Chopin’s The Awakening. Other writers whose major works you should be familiar with include Wheatley, Melville, Crane, James, Cather, Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Faulkner, Ellison and Morrison. Ramuh.Urial said: » LOL! I liked 'Walden', but yeah. I don't think there is a school in this nation that would let you graduate without reading it. Do you not like reading about people rolling around in pond scum and becoming one with nature? That book was long for no reason. Three paragraphs describing "drinking from the fountain of time"? Seriously? Dude was drinking form a creek and was overly descriptive for no reason. He's almost as bad as Joseph Conrad. Quick, Uri!!!!!

Be prepared for some sermonizing like you have never seen, Krizz! Shiva.Nikolce said: » Honestly. I suggest you hear that Sermon in book on tape. Preferably with someone who reads it's as its supposed to be preached. You will get a good kick. Then you can actually read it.

I tested out of all four years for my BA in psychology with a minor in sociology using CLEP, DANTES, and some others. Wasn't easy and I don't recommend people do that, but for studying I used instantcert.com(not a free site, but back in the day there weren't many options, and it saved me a lot of money on study materials).
On an interesting side note, I took the Spanish CELP without knowing any Spanish at all, didn't study, and passed with a perfect score. Wait wait wait why don't I see a Mr. Steinbeck? 1984, Animal Farm, A Clockwork Orange, Flowers for Algernon, Lolita

Also I have to personally add Slaughterhouse 5. Trippy but good. Don't confuse Krizz. He has to take a test in American Lit. Oh that's right. That's why they were 2nd semester Sr year.

And I forgot to mention, I took all of these you had listed: English Composition with Essay American Literature College Algebra Natural Sciences - General History of the United States I History of the United States II Western Civilization I Western Civilization II Information System and Computer Applications Using Instantcert, you don't need to re-read any of the books mentioned in the courses. Instantcert's materials are made from people who have taken the tests and "brain dumped" afterwards (educators, not just random people). So in there study materials your going to get a lot of the same questions that are in the test (or close to it). I originally just went through and copied all of their materials down and would study about 24-48 hours in advance of the test regardless of how much or little I already knew on the subject. CLEP tests if taken on the computer are "pooled" and randomly selected as you take the test. I have more experience in this than I would like to admit. >.< Edit: Removed a part about the questions, that was DANTES not CLEP. I have to say that actually sounds like a very good system for studying. Much better than buying 8-20 review books IMO.

Anyway, wtf is CLEP? Is that like GED but for college credits? It is tests for college credit. Usually limited by how many you can take at most colleges. Basically, if you have a good base in history you'll be able to pick up on the social commentary from the period that the book was written in. It just comes naturally if you like history.
Krizz, seeing as though history itself was one of your concerns, I don't mind helping you out. Obviously Uri doesn't have a problem with it either. I'll gladly dig around. EDIT: Reformation and Greco/Roman studies were two of my absolute favorite courses! ACED!
