Completely new to bluemage any advice?
dont make those stupid magic accuracy swords >.>
Valefor.Prothescar said: » almost everything You forgot the chr + mab set for eyes on me :P Bismarck.Reyke said: » Ok so just to double check when a spell says minimum level of say 15 its not saying the physical level 15 but its saying you have to have at least the skill in magic of a 15? If you're referring to equipping a spell, it means your actual level. if you're referring to learning the spell, it means your blue magic skill. There's a minimum skill requirement for learning a spell, so augmenting your skill with gear or merits lowers the required level to learn a spell if your skill exceeds that of a higher level. Example: The lowest level at which you may learn Goblin Rush is level 75. If you equip your Magus Jubbah, you may learn it as low as 72. Valefor.Prothescar said: » Get all of your spells, every single one. Why? I personally would go hunt all the spells when I had some free time after getting the important spells but that's just for the sense of completeness. I'm sure there are more than a few spells that are useless and make no good job traits or give good stats. My RDM doesn't have all the en- II spells and for all I know my BRD doesn't have every single Requiem song. Because we won't let you in our super cool blu group if you don't have them all.

Mirage Charuqs... ahh, I just love the look too much. Get Bludgeon Foot Kick and Head Butt, spam them all the way up to a decent skill then start learning the other spells. Try to optimize time by going to mobs that can give you different types of magic, example: get your skill high enough and go for eyes on me + magic barrier instead of going twice, you won't be using blu until you have a decent amount of skill/spells anyway
The Job Traits, definitely do help out, but there are probably a few spells here and there you can skip over (I'm only refering to a few between lvl 1-50). Just make sure you look over the Job Trait combinations and get your BLU stagger spells for abyssea for full stagger attempt runs. Even though there is a 1/7 chance you will be the stagger, but every little bit helps.
BLU can be as involved as you want it to be. You get out what you put into it. And in terms of sub I have seen alot of blu sub dnc is there anything better or is that basicly the best?
I use /NIN /DNC /WAR and /RDM fairly frequently.
/WAR is your best overall DD sub now with Triple Attack and DWII set via spells.
/NIN is your second best while adding shadows for a bit more survivability. /DNC is best for procs, any other situation I don't see how it's very beneficial. /RDM is your best sub for a lot of soloing, Campaign and Whisker burning. It's also pretty boss for nuking, but marginally better than /NIN if you set MAB anyways. I only use /dnc in dynamis. Is there another use for it other than stealing all of my chant tp?
It's kind of a throwback to 75 but I really like /SCH for Campaign. Dark Arts + Drain/Aspir is awesome, especially with Alacrity or Manifestation. Phalanx is counterproductive for EXP, though if you really need it you're probably fine EXP-wise.

Our natural cures are more efficient and nothing else the sub provides is very useful for a group setting. Fenrir.Nightfyre said: » It's kind of a throwback to 75 but I really like /SCH for Campaign. I leveled BLU recently and here's what i did. It worked really well.
Solo to 30+. Get all the spells you can while soloing and that should keep your skill near cap and help you learn a little bit of the job. Focus first on healing spells and then heavy damage spells. Then fill in the rest of the junk spells you'll never use. Burn 30-90. After you reach at least 75+ you should start leveling blu magic skill. Pick your own method. Whether its casting pollen in jeuno for hours on end, gaining skill while farming low level spells, or by using questionable methods such as spellcast. Once your skill gets up to about the same as a lvl 50-60 blu, start hunting spells. Go for the highest healing spell you can learn first such as magic fruit. Then head for the highest damage physical spells you can learn next to aid in farming faster. Always keep an eye on your blu skill (it will level up really fast while farming spells) and always go for the heaviest hitting spells first along with the next tier of healing. After that, head for your abyssea trigger spells along the way. You'll start to notice that when you are a high level that you will be able to learn multiple spells in the same zone. Always try to aim for a zone while farming a spell that can net you a bunch of spells at once. Example: You're heading to Beaucedine for ice break. You can also learn goblin rush, bomb toss, eyes on me, blitzstrahl, grand slam, claw cyclone, magic barrier and more. You could walk out of one zone with 7+ spells with only being there an hour or 2. Doing this took me about 2 weeks to gain nearly all spells and capping blu skill while playing 3-4 hours a night. I found it very useful for soloing easy NMs, cure with TP is way faster than using MP, so if there's anything need to be stunned I have more time to stun it. Cure with magic takes a while, and it may miss stun if lagged. Evasion bouns/DW 2 from job trait can save some set point, haste+5% is just a bonus. Healing waltz is useful to deal with status aliment, although some status aliment such as silenced can be cured with items, it's still nice to save some money. Bismarck.Reyke said: » hmm I guess my biggest worry would be trying to skill up in abyssea or somewhere and ppl asking for a spell but I havent gotten it yet because I dont have enough skill to learn it. There is a simple way to avoid this. One can skill up WHILE farming spells. Indeed its probably a good idea. Im trying to learn battery charge and it says you can learn it without the AF body at 73. Im using the blu AF body and the +1 pants which give me 266 blu skill that according to the chart on wiki is exactly 73 but im still not learning it?

Battery Charge is a level 79 spell, and at that level a blue mage is able to reach 296 skill. 266 is exactly 30 below this, but you need to be less than 30 away...so 267+ is what you need to learn the spell. I'm interested in seeing numbers vs /nin to see how much better it is outside and inside Abyssea. If you do not get every spell than you are not a really blue mage with the right to call yourself an immortal.

If you waste the time it takes to go and get the almost completely useless, will never set in your life spells like Blood Saber etc. and then proclaim to others that not getting all the spells does not give them the right to call themselves an immortal...
you must concede it DOES give them the right to call you an elitist tool. (for reference this is not aimed at flion who is almost certainly being sarcastic (surely right?) but the people who genuinely believe this) |
