Probably when I first started. Was pretty fun back then when I was a newb and grinding up in those Dunes/Qufim/Yuh. Jungle/Garl. Cit. parties. Fun times, fun times :3
Oh, and I can't forget the trains of death inside GC and CN, oh man the excitement, I miss that;;!
^^This
I absolutely loved old parties. Best were GC on my THF when I levelled it up for TH2... Tachi Enpi -> SATA Viper Bite -> Distorion -> Water 2
IT mob insta-dead pretty much. Awesome xp. When you had a pt going like that, you knew you weren't leaving till you all out-grew the camp.
Also, beating my first mini avatar as 20smn. Not sure why, but at the time that felt like an awesome achievement. Everything seemed much more awesome when you were new.
Edit:
Buying my first "expensive" item as a newb. I had no idea how to work the ah or what was good to farm and spent weeks npcing everything to make the 35k to buy a Republic Subligar.
It's been almost 3 years and a couple servers but I've never sold it back :3
Also, don't mess with my solo whm! I loved this item as a newb haha... Went solo'ing Beadeaux as lv27ish just to test it out (I think a bastok mission too...) with this baby :O

Tanking Ultima and Omega in CoP 6-4 as a PLD before any nerfs. Nine attempts and several million in meds spent -_-
I have to admit after a year of CoP watching the final cutscene did get me a bit misty...

My fondest memory would be before they nerfed dynamis with high relic drop rates and the everyday stagger system. I have a very nice dynamis week +1 day getting Assassins Armlets on a Sunday then getting Assassins Armlets -1 on Wednesday and ended with a Mon. Silverpiece on Sunday. Was a very good loot hoarding week in that dynamis shell for me. Now almost everyone has armlets thanks to the new drop rates and enter conditions

My best memory in FFXI, besides the friends I've met along the way, was defeating my last Promyvion with a group of friends and being transported to Lufaise Meadows exploring the beautiful new area and watched a dragon swoop down and skim across the water at the Leremieu Lagoon.
No new expansion, piece of gear I wanted for years that I finally earned, or even completing the rest of CoP lived up to that moment on FFXI.
I did not find Blueblade Fell until a few months later (was scared of the IT enemies lol >.>), and is a very beautiful area with the same dragon flying above. More importantly was the realization that was the same city as in the opening cutscene I saw when I first started playing (always skipped it after). I love the history behind blueblade fell, the plateau overlooking the old tavnazia post Great Crystal War, now in ruins.
Why SE never went into this piece of land, even with all the requests heard by players, is beyond me. All that time they invested into abyssea, the new weapon system, all this new equipment, could have been put into making that area public. I would trade all this new gear, weapons that are up to relic performance, these wonderful...recolored areas, for a chance to go to that area. The actual zone itself. An area shown to us from the beginning, ~9 years ago in japan, with the release of WoTG that gave us access to the crystal war, was not given to us.
It could be part of the last expansion, beginning and end, and I would not be surprised. The fact that we would be level 99 by then would be the best time to do so. I don't see a new expansion coming within a year or two but if it does I would hope they base it off of this area.

This is really easy for me. My fondest Memory was going through the CoP missions with my Static. Even though most (If not all by now) quit years ago, I still remember who.
Grog
Tabasheer (Until One to be feared)
Obans
Dragono (Until When Angels Fall)
Senrez (Usually just to help with hard fights like Ouryu and Omega)
To this day, I consider Chains of Promathia the true "Final Fantasy Experience" That Final Fantasy XI was obligated to provide in its name. It was essentially that grand quest undertaken by a band of misfits-turned-heroes that spanned figuratively (And literally, as I'm sure some people can attest to) months, forming great friendships and occasional enemies through action and personality.
I'm wise enough (or maybe just nostalgic enough) to appreciate the level capping for CoP now that I look back. The only real issue with the level capping itself was having to buy (Sometimes incredibly expensive) equipment for specific fights. It's amazing how much an Emperor Hairpin helped on Riverne A01.
If you're looking for a specific Minute or Two, it's definitely the first steps in Al'Taeiu, though without the two months of buildup prior, it would have been nearly meaningless.

I vouch for this, would be nice if SE added new areas, sad fact is SE is done w/ this game it would seem, just scrapin' a few more years outta this game as cheaply as possible

Wiping at the end of the airship fight with the boss at 1% and the clock running out. Huge investment nearly wasted as those pump thingies werent cheap. Whm raises up and casts banish for the win. I still cant believe it happened like that, to this day.

I still cant believe it happened like that, to this day. I had the same thing happen, was casting banish but it timed out at like 60% cast time.

That reminds me of my fist time in Al'taeiu... Chasing a shark with a friend who was screaming "FOR STEVEN IRWIN!" over the mic. Still my favourite zone in the game... It's just so, unique.

Love these threads.
Being a new NIN 75 which took me 8 months to level to 75 as my first job. I would stop and farm bees in East Saru which were 25k a stack and I can still remember the path to kill them to this day.
So the scene is the boat to the dunes:
In comes new player WAR L13 /checking me 10 times and jabbering away to anyone and everything in /say.
So the 15 min journey is underway and I go upstairs to stand in the captains cabin for a better view and this WAR follows me as I was one of the few people who answered him regarding a Dunes question and the pain he was about to go through in exp.
Enter stage left: Sea Horror.
So I back the fook up and keep well away from it and he says "whoa wtf is that, awesom, says its impossible to beat?!?!".
No thats the NM message, dont go near it it will kill you.
"Pffffftttt im a *** WAR man"
yeah I know, dont go near it.
"FU man youre a pussy"
ok GL.....
So he goes up and, this is the fond part, it didnt even turn round to hit him. The mob animation didnt trigger to turn and face him and he simply dropped dead in one shot.
I was in tears, then had to explain to the WAR I cant raise him and left him dead on the docks as we arrived.
--------------------------
CoP......... the pain.... oh the pain.
--------------------------
Ark Angels fight with 8 BLMs almost a MUST have for that *** Taru and then the group splintering into specific rolls. Crazy complex strats lol.
Will think of a few more.

I first played the game when it was released on PS2 and I thought if I circled around the monster it wouldn't hit me. Boy was I wrong. I run around monsters still, but for a different reason

I love this idea, a L99 area, where it all began and ends would be amazing.

I started with a group of friends from my high school.
I remember running around Bastok together, and I was such a noob I would get lost if I went into Mines, Metalworks, or Port.
At first none of us were sure how to use the AH. I just wanted to run around outside killing bees all day, I didn't care about the AH at all. So I'd trade Rues everything I'd gotten off the bees, and he'd go sell it and buy me new armor or weapons with the gil until I learned how to do it for myself.
When we were old enough to go to the jungle, we realized we needed keys. We had such horrible luck on drop rates that I leveled up a couple times trying to farm keys off quadavs in the mines.
We all rode the boat there together and I was completely amazed at it. When we got there, everyone else got into a party right away. I remember sitting by the gate with my flag up, scared that the goblin would see me, wishing someone would want to pick me.
I remember feeling super bad-*** when they did the update that would let you rest with Signet and not lose tp. I was so used to losing it all every time I rested!
I made a good friend, Pinklily, and we were inseparable in-game for a few years. One day I made a new friend who didn't get along with Pink, and I didn't handle it well. Pink and I fought over it, she got fed up, quit and left to play WoW. I still carry around a signed present she crafted for me in my bazaar, and I still miss her, still regret that fight. (Yes, I am one of 'those' people who carry around presents in my bazaar from people who mean a lot to me.)
The first time I set foot in The Sanctuary of Zi'tah I fell in love with it. It's still my favorite zone in the game.
I hated Prishe during the CoP missions. Absolutely couldn't stand her. I thought she was the most annoying person ever because she'd never just sit still, never shut up, never listen to what anyone else said. Now, with the whole Shinryu story line, I feel bad for her.
I was 75 before I knew what an event ls was. We'd always just run around together with a social, gotten parties on our own. Before we got an event ls, I'd watched a video of a big alli trying to kill Dynamis Lord and failing. I thought he was the hardest boss in the game and that we'd never beat him, for sure.
Rusty buckets were the first furnishing I realized that I could put in my house. I didn't know there were other furnishings, so I filled my house up with rusty buckets that I'd fished up. Then I wondered why I never caught fish when I fished, only rusty buckets and subligars. xD
This game holds some of the best memories to me. I know, I know, it's 'only a game,' but the people I've met and grown to love are real. The sense of accomplishment and pride when I meet a goal in-game is real. The fun times we've had here are real. The memories are real.

way too many good memories over the years... but the one that sticks out the most was when i was invited into my first LS. Nightshell. we all shared the same work schedule and did numerous events and missions together. if it wasnt for them, i doubt i would be where i currently am in game... but then over time we all grew apart, schedules changed and the shell was dissolved about a couple years ago. miss those guys/gals.

Epic dunes parties were Epic, although I find myself in the same boat as a lot of you were, I hated the dunes and despised going there, the failurs of other people etc. BUT now looking back was so much fun. My thf friend kiting links in the dunes around the boat while the rest of the party killed the other mob, that sense of relief when you got a job to 20 and were PEACE OUT MOFO'S off to Jeuno!
Aside from that, going to Fanfest 2005, when me and my fiend (the one who got my hooked on this game) being a 32 rdm and her a 28 thf, and then getting to be in the first group in NA to play in besieged, you think the first time on your server was chaotic? lol the announcers most common phrase... "and the blackmage goes down"
On a besieged note, the first time it went to lvl 8, before the time nurf. I remember starting at like 12am and going afk around 3:45-4am and it was still going on!
Still very said that because of the server merge it broke my very first LS, wasn't used anymore but I still like to equip it and see the last LS message, BLUEROUGES FOREVER!!!!!
I think around 50% of the NA/EU population ran through that LS on Ramuh at one time or another lol, meet so many kick *** people, many have become RL friends
Hey guys, let's take a stroll down memory lane. Name one of your best memories of FFXI Online.
Mine is nuking the shit out of mobs whilst BLM with a NIN/WAR as a tank. I was the tank. It was amazing. Another moment was mocking the loldrg, lolnin, lolpup, and all the other horrible notions that ended up working well in the end. Here's to sitting in Jeuno and waiting for a party in Bibiki Bay or King Ranperre's Tomb, or any of the other zones we used to party in prior to ToAU.
