Is the test client only one server, Undine?

I was on for about ten minutes last night and only 180 people were on.

If so, whats the population during the day?

I'm just getting PoL errors now, even though I know I've done everything correctly.

1. Install
2. Extract the three zipped folders into a folder creating FFXI
3. Merge FFXI into the installed test directory (As in the contents, not the FFXI file)
4. Update
5. Play

Apart from it maxes to full screen and crashes out.

*** SE.

Hmmm. Last night when I tried it...

I got the full screen crash when I forgot to copy the ffxi files into the directory.

I was able to get it to work afterwards but the moogle spoke jp.

So it should be done when I get home and work correctly. (I reinstalled this morning and it was updating when I left for work.)

Only thing I did differently...was started from a desktop launcher that I created with the initial setup. Although I don't see how that would affect anything.

Well I'll try again now, but if it doesn't work again then I just don't have the necessary drive to work that hard on beta testing SE's updates really.

Anyone have any idea why my XI is updating 1488 files before I can get in? Is this normal? Surely the entire point of getting the gigantic zip files was to avoid this?

I had that occur too.

The time I didn't copy the folders over, it did 1448 files.

And the time today, where I did everything correctly, it also did 1448 files.

But, I haven't been home to see if it worked yet. I can let you know in two hours. :/

But yeah, it is stupid. A ~5gb download, a 20minute copy, and an hour update just to do this. At least thats how long it took me.

yeah it's kinda funky...

I think maybe I'm doing it in the wrong order.

If this doesn't work again I'll

1. Install the test server
2. Run the update
3. Copy over the files
4. Run the client again

Well, it was the important moogle. The first command was to change your current job level. But like the next ones were teleporting me places. and i think the equipment and spell menus or whatever are in that moogle, as well.

I couldn't do it. But maybe you can.

I worked out what I *** up. I honestly assumed SE would actually make self extractable files instead of expecting you to do it all separately. My mistake was trusting SE to know their ***.

did people actually read the read.txt file?? it clearly states when you sign up somewhere that you should. and if youve would have read it, inside the said file it clearly states that you should extract and copy/paste everything inside the ffxi folder (once extracted) to the ffxi test client folder, o... and dont not version update before you copy/paste the 3 extracted files.

on a side note the only issue im having is with the GM moggle where when you choose to receive a weapon category it gives you the category above instead. matter of fact everything listed within that section it gives you the above selection instead of what its listed as.

I read it several times. I assumed the files were self extracting, like every single piece of modern software.

but,but... it tells you to extract the files o.O; or maybe you was too excited and miss to read that part over & over again lol. anywho... as long as you got it now i guess your good, if you updated before you extracted the files you may have an entirely different issue on your hands (some have said it give JP character text? if i understand)

edit: yea reading past post looks like a JP moggle, but that moggle is actually important it can give you a list of gear you may want to try out before actually getting it lol. that actually the moggle i was talk about previously but some of the commands are missed up. first commend which is something like "browse or list item you want" (something like that, cant really check it now at work atm) but that command dosnt work for me. weapons/ammo/gear list works but again its above its actual category.

Try to take it out of fullscreen flion, use the Final Fantasy XI Config in the ToolsEU for EU I suppose, and then turn off the opening movie and turn it into windowed mode
Hopefully we can get you working so we can all hold hands this evening ;;

Program Files x86 > Playonline > SquareEnix > Final Fantasy XI Test Client > ToolsUS > Final Fantasy XI Config.

You can also do the gamepad config in there.

And it's really important that you follow the order cuz I was doing it wrong for god knows how many hours.

1. Download and run the setup for test server (but dont start pol after you do that.)
2. Download and unzip the other 3 files.
3. Copy what you unzipped (the actual files/folders inside, not just the folder named "ffxi") to Final Fantasy XI Test Client folder, overwrite anything it asks you about
4. Start up POL, run the update and you're good.

Everything should be in English
