For those of you familiar with Mojang (Minecraft creators), You may have noticed the lawsuit from Bethesda regarding their game Scrolls.

Notch posted this today on his blog yesterday:

Hey, Bethesda! Let’s settle this!

I am back, and I am excited.

Marriage has been wonderful so far, and nobody sabotaged my computer while I was gone.

The only negative thing going on at this moment is the Scrolls trademark lawsuit nonsense, and I think I came up with the perfect solution:

Remember that scene in Game of Thrones where Tyrion chose a trial by battle in the Eyrie? Well, let’s do that instead!
I challenge Bethesda to a game of Quake 3. Three of our best warriors against three of your best warriors. We select one level, you select the other, we randomize the order. 20 minute matches, highest total frag count per team across both levels wins.

If we win, you drop the lawsuit.

If you win, we will change the name of Scrolls to something you’re fine with.

Regardless of the outcome, we could still have a small text somewhere saying our game is not related to your game series in any way, if you wish.

I am serious, by the way.

EDIT: whoops this wasn't the chatterbox forum. Derp... been awhile lol.

I can't believe it has 21,000 likes overnight. When he was doing the Minecraft buy 1 get one free weekend because of his wedding... THAT post only got like 7,000 likes by the end of the weekend.

I hope it really happens, and they televise it on G4 or IGN live lol.

The best part about this is it's in the best interest of both of them to partake in this competition to settle this lawsuit due to massive legal fees and nasty publicity (defending or accusing) in being part of a lawsuit.
A publicized competition of Quake 3 to settle the matter will neutralize all of the above.

Not only that, but it would bring publicity to both companies and turn it into profits if anything. Seriously the move of a genius, and it just furthers the reason for his success.

Now lets just hope it happens and they accept the challenge lol.

Trial by battle would revolutionize the legal system, imagine the possibilities. Unless they actually got caught commiting the crime like a video footage or DNA evidence, they I'd say, your fuked. HANG'EM!!

I'm not sure I understand what betheseda is so worried about. Is it really that hard to distinguish "Scrolls" from "Elder Scrolls"?

I've always called their games by the current game like "Morrowind" or "Oblivion".

I think it has to do with the timing, I could be wrong, but maybe they feel as if he's trying to take advantage of the publicity of their upcoming Skyrim.. If they weren't fixing to release Skyrim, I kinda doubt this would be an issue.

Still doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's the only logical conclusion I can come to. It's not as if they invented and trademarked the word 'scrolls'.

If lawsuits were always logical I think we'd find fewer would exist...

Probably a publicity stunt from the start.
