Just curious to see what people actually do for a living out there. Most people hate their jobs, but I want to hear from the people who love what they do. Could even throw in how you got to that point if you want (education, certifications, experience, etc).
What do I do?
Radio technician. I work on large-scale radio systems such as statewide networks for 800MHz-band communications. I also install radios in police cars, fire engines, ambulances, EMA vehicles, and even farm machinery.
Experience/degrees:
Military - Land Mobile Radio Journeyman (2E153) - Six years
Private Small Business - Radio Technician - Two years
A.A.S., Electronics Systems Technology
B.S., Business Admin (not currently used for anything lol)
I like my job, but there is a lot of overtime and you often have to work outside in the snow/rain/heat/etc. Lots of manual labor. Upside - lots of job freedom and lots of travel time. Easy to take days off. Not a job for anyone afraid of heights - lots of ladder use and climbing radio towers (yikes...).

I hope I will, going to VFS-Game design program, going to probably have to spend a few years working as a grunt but hoping one day to be lead designer.

I love what I do atm. Its not the best setting, but I surely love my job. I'm a chef by passion, and am currently working at an Olive Garden. Its not the greatest restaurant to work at, but cooking is what I truly love to do ^^.

Best part about my job....2 whole months of solid FFXI. XD

I work for the American Heart Association. It’s non-profit so the pay is not so great, but the work we do is very worthwhile.

Hate it. I do immigration law and let me tell you, I get to meet the most ignorant people on earth every day. It is so bad I think my IQ has dropped several points.

I like my job. Just get monotonous at times.
By zahrah 2011-07-29 15:01:27
I've already dumped my education and occupation elsewhere.
I enjoy my job, but this stagnant economy and a lawsuit between two contractors on one of my projects has made me buy countless bottles of Aleve this summer.
I can't complain too much. My firm is relaxed enough to allow me to goof off on here, and what can I say? Quite the fun crowd in my office.

See, this is why I initially thought that you already had a BA. I know you had said you were a journalist in a previous thread.

I heard that being a chef can end up being very lucrative.

However i volunteer at a farm, and they are having a big fun day tomorrow and a cuople months ago they asked me to design the posters for it ^^ So i got to put my artsy side to work finally! XD So right now my design is all over the city, and even otherplaces like, 80 miles away >.> Which i was surprised to hear. Sagi i think is near North Berwick (hopefully he reads this) I was told there was some posters down that way too, for Gorgie Farms Big Fun day ^^ would be cool if you see it Sagi xD Also i got told 5000 flyers were put onto public busses this morning :D So, it may not really be a job, but its what id love to do if i cant get into animation. Hopefully all this opens up a door for me ^^

you bolded the misspelled word for revenge didn't you ;_;
muphry's law, i suppose
no, i went to AIT for it, as opposed to college. that said i'm willing to bet i got more hours of actual journalistic training than someone who went to school and majored in it
you can get a lot done when you do journalism from 7 to 6, without health, PE, humanities, underwater basket weaving etc

I'd like to actually use my degree one day. I think the only people I could work for are Motorola or EF Johnson though because of my radio experience. Those are probably the only people who would pay me above entry level for a business-side job.
Anyone else have a Bachelors in Business Admin?

I love my work, but not my job. I basically work at Initech - as far as the culture and atmosphere and level of happiness goes. My building is even the same color scheme. It's terrible.
I make kinda cool maps, though. Total fluke getting the job. And I suppose I should be grateful, as I am not "qualified" when compared to a lot of the people I work with - but it's not a terribly complicated job, and, advanced degrees =/= good work habits or ability to get things done, necessarily.
But I guess the answer is, "not me!!!!"

Maybe? Actually, I just banged that out too quickly myself. I wasn't really paying attention. Or was I?
EDIT: Understandable that you would go that route. I wish they would do away with some non-career specific pre-requisites for underclassmen. Some classes are just superfluous.

i'm sure the student loan services would revolt and burn the college
how are you going to get someone 100k into debt if they only take the 20 credit hours they actually need

Career Navy woman. Originally enlisted in 99. Not long after, I was accepted into the Seaman to Admiral commissioning program. Sitting on O-4 at 12 years right now, but I hope to at least make it to the Admiral ranks before I retire.
Among other duties, my primary task and purpose in the military is training troops of all branches. I am an unarmed self defense and marksmanship instructor, and I couldn't think of anything I would loving doing more!

I work as sales manager at a store in Electronics industry.
Best job I ever had and I truly love it.
Not everyday is fun with pissed think-they-know-it-all customers but overall its a great job.
