Hello, i took a break almost a year ago from XI.
But we always come back to XI, no matter what.
I'm just wondering for someone who hasn't played the game for practically a year (and haven't been up to par with the news) if it's worth getting back into or if SE did something to break the game?

Thank you for your time.

I'd say it is worth getting back into.

That being said~~I don't remember exactly when Abyssea came out but if you dunno about Abyssea then be prepared to not be able to get very many parties after 30 without being a leech...It's not impossible to get normal old school parties, it's just pretty hard. But abyssea can be kinda fun at higher levels and they have also added grounds of valor which is kinda cool, turned lower level dungeons into multi level dungeons and put books there...my husband just did a grounds of valor XP alliance and said it was pretty fun.

Anyway, good luck.

Thank you for taking the time to answer, and yeah i got some jobs leveled up there in the 75s+ my main worry is that i have to re-gear pretty much every job i have due to my absence, hopefully not every gear i need to get is impossible-tier, haha. Thanks again for the answer, i may just go re-activate my acc.

Why would it matter, just play to have fun. This isn't a race.

Gear IMO has become easier to get. A lot of the old gear that is still viable until the AF3 is cheap and readily available, and most AF3 is fairly easy to get/make pt's for. If you already have jobs at 75 then it will be that much easier to get back into. I suggest just reading up on job specific forums so you know what changes have been made and ideas on gear you would want.

There will be new stuff for you to learn (how abyssea actually "works" for "one" thing) but there is lots of fun waiting for you imo. YES, it's worth coming back.

Depends, did you have/do Abyssea before you quit, was it in full effect then? (I really don't remember the timeline of when it all started)..

Lots of people who quit before Abyssea come back and find that Abyssea has destroyed the game in their opinion.. Just offering up that warning. If it was already in full effect, then I can't imagine the game being so different that you don't wish to play it any longer, if it wasn't, you might want to look more into it first.

I decided to come back in August and have really enjoyed it thus far. It's still a bit of a grind but at least with some of the level caps removed, and leveling pages you can move a bit faster through much of the content (without it feeling too easy).

This is why I was disappointed with FFXI when I came back to it.

it's the people, not the content

though for casual small groups like ours

aby improved the game immensely

I can see how that makes a difference. I started with RL friends. The only one that was left was the one who reeled me back into playing for a few months. I don't think there was anyone left IG that I had played with in previous years too, other than that one RL friend.

EDIT: I might have chalked my experience up to standards that other players might not have had before they returned.

But yeah, Abyssea is perfect for how we play. If the game does become like it did back in the day, I doubt I'll have much time for it tbh.

I doubt it would though, old director or not.

same here

the director had best keep in mind

that his 14 year old audience that had 6-8 hours of free time a day

has become a 24 year old audience that has 6-8 hours of free time a week

and they haven't ever managed to add new young players

if he forgets this, he's gonna kill a goose that's laying golden eggs, however small those eggs might be

I have mixed feeling about it tbh... given my hours it works better for me. Before abyssea I was working a scedual that changed every week so I had no way to commit to an endgame LS and pritty much only did that kinda stuff with social shell (genearlly sat/sunday afternoons we'd find someway to amuse ourselves but even then more than half the time I'd be working those afternoons XD). I do miss the diversity in activites though... lets face it for the last year and 1/3 - 1/2 its been pritty much abyssea only and got old a while back for me : (

Abyssea took the idea of clocking in and out like a 9-5 job and threw it out the window. So it's a nice change of pace to be able to get gear, etc. at the pace you want to move at.

Abyssea: Moar free time = moar general success.
