Funnies - Dang, I had the Atari from 2 systems before the 5200 in that picture; wood paneled with metal switches. I feel old. I remember you could go to the shops and pay between 50p and £2.50 per game. Not like now where its between £30 to £70 per game. It's funny, people that complain how much games cost now, there's very little difference to how much they cost back then when brand new. My uncle paid more than $50 for Space Invaders when it first came out, because at the time, this was THE gaming console. Prices eventually dropped when Atari started putting out a new console every 2 years thereafter, but at first game prices were the same then as they are now. New NES games were, as I remember, $50. Maybe some like, second tier games were less, but for new/good ones, $50 was it. Now, new games are $60 I think... I just checked a random inflation calculator:
Quote: $50.00 in 1990 had the same buying power as $89.48 in 2012. If that's right, games are cheaper now. Edit: Probably the fact that we are buying our own games now (vs our parents) has something to do with it. :D Fenrir.Terminus said: » New NES games were, as I remember, $50. It wasn't until much later in the SNES's life cycle(maybe even N64's) that a price was regulated to $50, the way games are set at $60 or below now(not including special/collector's editions). I distinctly recall seeing many NES/SNES games for more than $80; I paid $70 for Final Fantasy II(IV) when it came out. back in 2000 console games were only $40...
Damn... I guess we should have checked other NPCs....
