Okay here's my problem. Last July was the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. We got nothing but a blurb about it from the US media on the DAY OF the wedding.

Sorry to break it to you Europe, most Americans are completely ignorant of the fact that there are other monarchies in Europe, and that's why the US media has glommed on to this one (and the Diana legacy). Also, while watching this, I was so pissed that the US media was more focused on the celebrity guests than the regal ones.

Nice ceremony, but Princess Letizia of Spain, Princess Maxima of the Netherlands and Princess Mary of Denmark are my favorite princesses who married into their royal families. Miss Midds can't hang with those accomplished ladies who actually used their degrees and had a life before meeting their princes.

EDIT: Forgot to add Queen Rania of Jordan and Queen Noor.

DOUBLE EDIT: Princess Grace of Monaco is the end all be all of royal brides in the fashion stakes.

In a self-gratification oriented nation like America, talking about things that happen in countries 93% of the population has never even heard of, makes for poor television.

But it's not hard to see why America would follow England's royal family closer than others. Just look at the relationship between the US and England over the years. I also don't see any reason to bash Kate because she met William when she was still at the University. As far as I see it England tends to parade it's royal family around more and because of this it's the most well known royal family in the world.

Hopefully now that it's over every media outlet will SHUT THE F UP about it and perhaps talk about something else. I'm all for a wedding and all but seriously, when it eats up every media program out there... it's just sad.
I, Agree. But really we have all weekend till it's over. Then we should be ok! As a canadian I don't get it. I get why we care about the Royal family, and I don't. But WTF, is with the USA. If you love the royal family so much why did you break off. This has got to be the most unamerican thing I can think of to cover. By the way our former Royal family is having a wedding we should do 23 of 24 hour media coverage so everyone can love them again! There has been more USA media coverage of the wedding then there was in Canada.

Here in the USA... our media is made up of morons. Intelligent television shows get cancelled, the terrible ones keep on going. (Thank you Charlie Sheen for doing something to get that horrible show off the air) For some reason we need to be told when to laugh or show emotion, (laugh tracks annoy the carp out of me) or what music we should listen to and like.

I doubt us Americans are alone in the world for some of the things i mentioned. I think Kate is a pretty girl, but i really had no desire to see all the celebrity grandstanding, or even the wedding itself.

Speaking of which... was the day of the wedding crazy hat day?

Zahrah... i have no idea who the Princesses you mentioned are (and i doubt i'm alone), but i'll go read about them.

(Edit to your edits... i do know who Princess Grace is... mostly because i'm a Philadelphian and Kelly Drive is really nice. And i know who both of the Queens you mentioned are.)

My general opinion (salute) is that the world is filled with idiots. And i'm only one of them.

Not bashing. Just kind of perturbed because there are other royal families with better role models.

I called the Grace-Kelly-esque dress....unfortunately. I didnt wake up at 3am to watch the wedding, I woke up this morning and saw it plastered on yahoos front page.

Why do royals choose ugly dresses? I mean its better than Dianas (which was hideous /le blasphemy) for sure, but really? How much did they pay for that dress? I bet they could have gotten something much more expensive looking for much less...Im not saying that they should have spent less, Im saying her dress looks cheap.

I dont really mind the news coverage, its better than listening to depressing news. There arent many girls out there who dont imagine being a princess at some point or another or having a big fantastical wedding. Is this wedding more important than anybody elses? no...but its still romantic.

Also, wtf hats. Some of those looked like health hazards. British people are strange.

I'd imagine there's some tradition involved in choosing the dress. Or maybe choosing ugly dresses is the tradition.

I agree with you, Daus, it's nice to see something positive being given attention.

This.
The ratio of good news to bad news is just sad :/

Also Daus is right though I'm sure 99.9999999% of little girls want some fairytale princess wedding and thus 99.9999% of the female population on my facebook were posting at HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE hours in the morning about the wedding.

To us Spence a dress is a dress. We lack the insight to truly understand. Then again I'm not sure why we would ever have the need to pick out a wedding dress so that's irrelevant. Well you may...ya know le kick and all.

I don't see the problem with it. Like Spence said there's no problem in showing something good on the news stations for once.

Not that I really care about it, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone in the UK who really does outside of the upper class.

Spence - i love the picture you chose. Though every time i see it the phrase "You spoony Bard" comes to mind.

My roommates (who are engaged to each other) tell me that if i ever wanted to find a girl that i should try putting down FFXI and go outside.

To that i respond "There are girls on FFXI"

And they simultaneously shake their heads in shame. It's really eerie.

LOL Zahrah You are so right... I still don't know how to use that cursed DVR ~.~

About the wedding..meh..I think the biggest attraction was the simliarities to The Prince's mother, Princess Diana and her fairytale wedding, her dedication to the less fortunate, and her ultimate tragic demise. I think perhaps a lot of the world tuned in to see it all come full circle =)

That, and the dress is still just a dress.

I don't really know how it's possible Americans wouldn't know about the many monarchies in Europe. It's pretty basic history.

Also your "problem" that US coverage of this wedding is much bigger than Victoria's wedding is because the British royal house is far more important, influential and has a much richer history than that of the royal house of sweden or any other in Europe.

Besides that, I could remind you that the US have had a VERY intimite relationship with Britain since and before its existence. Not THAT long ago, the people that would become Americans paid allegiance to the British throne.

The dress was tasteful. All the recent royal weddings have had the same modern, understated look. I'm with Daus, no more Diana monstrosities. That should stay in the 80's where it belongs.

Yes, it was very modest. I just think that with all that money and of the billions of styles of dresses and how huge the hype was, she chose a very plain dress.

ofcourse my opinion isnt the end all of opinions.
