hello,

yesterday i played ffxi like any normal night.

today i start windower and windows says it stoped working (windows 7 x64)
it wouldn't be so bad if it was only windower but it is for playonline too.
i can not start the game anymore.
deinstalled the game and reinstalled. same problem.

does anyone have had some comparable problems?

Mine's working fine. I'd try updating video drivers maybe? Or it might be the file path, though reinstalling them should have fixed it. Idk...

Sounds like a corrupted harddrive or more likely a virus.

Did you DL the correct version of the program? I know they've had bugs with Windows 7 before and made a new patch since then.

updated graphics driver. still that problem.
just finished installing again POL itself.
same issue.

now running Virus-tests.

@Lynde: yesterday it worked fine, like everyday before that. that is the odd thing.

edit2:
tested other .exe on my pc. they start just fine.

Make sure UAC is disabled.

Do a hard drive check. chkdsk /r

Hard drive reading/writing errors or CRC errors might cause data to be loaded into memory improperly resulting in launch failures.

If all else fails, reinstall your OS.

Post the error code that it's giving you.

Also, what have you done on with the PC since it last worked correctly? Install any new programs or update anything? Open it up and clean it?

the only thing is did after logging out yesterday was turning off the monitor and go to bed. i let my pc run over night. no downloads or anything.

no installation or anything.
the only thing i did before trying to start ffxi was working in inDesign.

It looks to be either a graphics driver or an issue with DirectX itself.

Open an elevated command prompt and type in: "sfc /scannow"
No quotes.

Hate to suggest it, but there is always format/re-partition. if nothing else works.. might be the only option. Especially if the virus got into the registry.

good luck though

Reformatting is nowhere near as bad as it was on XP/Vista. All of your files get saved in Windows.old. Just takes a while.

downloaded the wrong POL-Viewer this morning. The US one. noticed it and deinstalled this version of POL.

downloaded the EU viewer and can't install now. even after cleaning the registry i can not start the installing without "deinstalling" the previous POL. Problem: after uninstalling it immediately starts the installing part and it crashes with msi.chm error 1603.

that is really weird.

Was there any follow up on this? I'm having the same issue, only its with a brand new computer. I can't get POL to start, just keeps crashing and i've tried EVERYTHING.
