I think part of the problem with gear selection has to do with there being (conceivably) different "types" of zombies, due to the nature of the apocalypse. :p
There are pseudo-science zombies, like the Romero "outer space virus" which just animates dead bodies. These mostly seem to be a "disable movement while avoiding exposure and threat is neutralised" type things, which everyone seems to assume will be most likely.
But there are also potentially Evil Dead type zombies caused by some divine/infernal intervention. These might require holy relics or belief in supernatural forces to overcome, in spite of how easy they might be to knock down at first. Good luck with that.
Lastly there are those sci-fi type zombies like in the "I am Legend" remake or "28 xxx's Later" series. Ghoul-like or CHUD-like organisms that might not be (fully) dead but behave like zombies, and probably move a heck of a lot faster than you are expecting they are going to do! ;_;
Either way, the hunting rifles are nice, but given how close-proximity surprises always come up during zombie apocalypse events, I'd opt for a big sidearm with high stopping power and knock-down. Like .45 ACP (instead of 9mm and a lot of rounds, or .454 and just a few rounds) just in case of a "turn a corner" sort of thing (where you end up accidentally shooting your team-member by mistake! Oops!) :p

I think a lot of people are going with the Max Brooks "theory?", in which there's a chemical called solanum that effectively kills the person and reanimates them. I think the "xxx of the Dead" movies would be the best representation, minus The Land of the Dead -.-

They most certainly do. But I think zombies developing problem solving skills sort of contradicts the whole idea of zombies, which is why I wasn't fond of The Land of the Dead.

I have read the book and love it but.
Quoted from some gay site:
The real Solanum is a large and diverse type of annual and perennial plant, that interestingly includes potatoes, tomatoes, and eggplant. So unless you think that ketchup will be the cause of the coming zombie plague, Solanum holds no bearing in any serious zombie discussion.

In all reality most of the close encounters you see in zombie apocalypse stuff is either forced or people being dumb.
Ya know those times when you are litterally asking the characters wtf they are doing. Or for some reason there is some goal that makes it so they have to go somewhere for some contrived reason.

There is that... plus really the brain takes alot of energy to power... and support systems which zombies clearly aren't using. imo that's how zombies work. The get by conversing power like heart lungs and brain.
Also how long they lasting? Pretty much forever? Or more logically a couple of months after food for them runs out?

Ya never know. You'd probably be the type of person to go to the hospital at the onset of a zombie invasion!

Rigor sets in fairly quickly, no? So that would hamper their movements. I don't know how long it would them to decompose naturally.

Yah, I remember in "Return of the Living Dead II" that government chemical (Trioxin LOL) ended up exposing soldiers, who still knew how to use their firearms after zombification. Scary! (Ok not the movie, but the idea...very Raccoon City.) :/

I think one of the best zombie theories I read was one where the zombies were in fact self aware and the process was a gradual one where they lost their humanity and will over time, but even in the end were capable of some memory though in the end were trapped inside the body of a monster. In that story it lead to a lot of problems and infections because people were less willing to kill someone who still could say their name and remember who they are, despite being aggressive and contagious.
The worst one though was City of the Dead and Dead... something. It was a 2 part book series where the zomz were actually demons unleashed by a portal after some atom smashing went down. Basically there was a demon who God couldn't kill so he locked him away in another dimension (this is actually in the bible very briefly and obscurely mentioned) and this dude got out. The demons grow in power the more they kill and they get to come out inside of dead bodies, but with limited function. They drive, walk, climb, talk, shoot rockets etc. etc. though so it gets away from the traditional zom stuff. In the end the universe is destroyed, fun times.
Aaaaaaanyway to get back onto the main topic my main weapon would be a Katana for melee and an AK-47 for range. If it is a T Virus thing I would pull a Wesker though and infect myself intentionally with the various virus and anti-viruses available and hope for the best!

Hehe if you're gonna raid the police station better be after the SWAT equipment otherwise prolly better of going to a gun shop and looking for either their back room or their 'hidden' room where the illegal stuff is. Assuming theres no near by military base to get the good stuff from. XD

Alright, I'll let you know how I fair in my zombie dreams. Adios.
Alright, so im having this argument with this dude on which weapon is better if there would be a zombie apocalypse. I think a crowbar would be best since it doesn't run out of ammo, but he says a rifle would be better. So I'm asking you guys... Which weapon do you think is best? Or better yet, which weapon would you use if there was a zombie hoard coming at you.
