I'm sure everyone has seen the player who runs around in terribly mismatched armor: gold feet, red hands, black body piece, and orange legs. they may not look very cool, but their stats are the best (Stats > Style)...

My play style is more of Style > Stats. If I'm going to equip something, it better look awesome with what I already have... or I won't equip it. Although, if there is a piece that looks a bit silly, but will make or break my performance, I would probably think twice before passing it by.

So which are you? Style > Stats or Stats > Style?

Nothing wrong with wearing 'town gear' that looks good, but if you're choosing gear for style > stats while doing anything else... not sure what to make of that :P

I'm a bit of both. I like to have the best stats I can get but style is definitely a plus. Thats where dat swapping comes in handy lol. Voila, no more looking at that ugly gear.

Well for me I try to find a balance. If I think a gear set looks great, but is completely useless I won't use it. But I would choose A over B if:

A is slightly less useful than B, but look better

B is more useful than A, but is a pink subligar.

Hmm, as a blm 75, I'm actually not that big a fan of the way the Igqira weskit looks, so I tend to hang around in my Omina Yukata, and Lilac corsage as long as I can. All my battle gear is macro'd in, so it switches automatically once I start nuking. I like to watch people worry when I join their party dressed like that hehe.

I guess I go stats > style when it comes to battle, but I should hope most people do D:

For me, Stats>Style. ALTHOUGH, I do have to admit that I was glad that the Scorpion Harness went well with the DNC A.F.; I was a little worried that I was gonna look like a clown lol

And WTF with RNG AF hat...huge freakin' pot leaf? Niiiiiice....

It'd be cool if FFXI introduced an NPC that could "dye" your clothes, though. No major .dat editing, being able to just change a couple colors (client side, of course) would be neat ^^

Ok, I'm not going to lie... I resisted wearing subligars (made an exception for bravo's subbie while lvling THF), because I couldn't stand looking at my male char wearing that... even if it had the best stats. >.>

BUT THAT'S THE ONLY TIME! :P

Seriously, don't party with crap gear because you think it looks good. Town gear is fine, wear whatever you want. If you want to be a player with crappy stats fine, go solo FoV or something. Don't bring down 5 other party members or 17 alliance members because you think a certain piece looks better.

Stats > Style

I got lucky cuz as a Mithra, everything looks good on me :3 But I'm also really stoked cuz as THF at about lv70 I could wear Ohat, the Cobra Mittens / Subligar / Leggings, and Black Cotehardie and look spiffy. Also looked good with Assault Jerkin. And, they are some of the best TP stuff for THF at that level (in my opinion).

Bonus: Take body off, look like a bondage witch or something. Spiffy!

I have a mixture on both..

Stats>Style - Cause most jobs always get best stats on items that make your job worht it. Style>Stats sometimes cause have you seen those piss yellow aurum feet!! I call them Target markers, a mob might as well aggro you from another area of how bright those things are lol. besides nothing really wrong wearing mix match lol

If I'm just roaming around and soloing things, then I usually opt for a more stylish approach. When it's time to party with people other than longtime friends; however, I do change my gear to something more appropriate.

Although, I have shown up to a couple of parties in lvl 1 RSE before we start fighting. Nothing says style more than killing high level enemies in super gimp gear. :p

Not gonna take the time to read all posts but, the key to doing any kind of combative activity, you need to be performing your best. In that sense Stats > Style. However, when stats are close knit and the difference makes an insignificant change, go for what looks good. This in most cases comes to not wearing superior subligars but settling for something almost just as good.

You can always look as fancy and stylish as you want in town, I doubt anyone will judge you there.

I am stats > style.
If something looks THAT bad you can always just mod your dats, provided you are on PC.
But I rarely mod dats because then you are giving a false view of your gears via screen shots.
(I'm talking about the people who have ***gear, change dats, and post everywhere screenies of themselves in the best gear possible. :o)
A classic example for me was Jet Seraweels vs Mahatma Slops.
God, those slops are horrible looking but I bought em anyways.

I've never understood the preoccupation with how things look in this game. I would gladly look ridiculous in something (Orange MNK AF shorts, hello?) if it provided me appropriate stat boosts for what I'm trying to accomplish.

I must be the black sheep of the family then. For me:

Style > Stats

I refuse to ever wear my Warlock's Tabard, I don't care if it gives me an insane amount of Enfeebling Magic. You will take my Duelist's and you will like it!

Lol I've taken that stance too, but sometimes I catch myself wearing it during salvage.
