I'm talking about Americans. I went to Germany recently for 5 weeks. It really blew my mind to see the extent of ppl's beliefes. So many ppl hate America but its not like we give ppl a reason not to.
wow I leave for a few hours to watch some downloaded movies i didnt pay for and come back to all hell breaking loss... granted people of the US have alot of ***to hate of us for. Helping out in damn near every disaster on any point of the world, feeding the hungry, making fresh water (I.E. USS Carrier in japan), sending of fresh hunking studs to bone as many chicks as possible. its not the American "person" that makes people dislike us.. its the American politics. I'll never apologize for what America does.
Not to mention when we do assrape a country we are nice enough to try and rebuild it. Say its not true.

Renesmay, I so sorry for whatever losses you had during Katrina. A couple of us went to volunteer and visit some friends at Tulane after Katrina. That was devastating! I haven't been to New Orleans since 2006. I sincerely hope things are getting better for you and your family.

( TEPCO) said Monday it will suspend a second round of planned power outages in the greater Tokyo and surrounding areas today, as actual electricity shortages in the wake of Friday's massive earthquake were not as severe as initially estimated.
I started following this thread when I though it was about the length of the server shutdown. it seems to have become a little bucolic; I'd appreciate a return to the original point.
However, I do feel inclined to speak in the defence of my nation.
Firstly, please do not confuse Britain with England. To mention what the British did in Scotland makes no sense, as the Scots are British. You mean what the English did.
Second, turning to what we actually did:
In Scotland, I presume you refer to the Highland Clearances of the 16th century. More an assault on the poor by the nobility than on the Scots by the English, much akin to the Harrying of the North perpetrated by the Normans in the 11th.
In Ireland, maybe the "troubles", maybe the Easter Uprising, but probably the general occupation which was the main instigator of American funding of terrorism in mainland Britain in the 1980s. Yes, we invaded, conquered and occupied the Emerald Isle. One must, however, consider what our motivation might have been for this. We took the American colonies for the great swathes of fertile land for growing cotton, sugar and tobacco; the African colonies had great mineral resources; India great accumulated Wealth; Australia was a convenient place to put inconvenient people; taking Canada annoyed the French. And Ireland? Fertile? Mineral rich? Wealthy? No. We invaded to stop the raids, to secure our borders.
Didn't the British take India? Yes, we did. We took it before the French and the Arabs could. India was not a single united entity as it is today, but a series of small squabbling fiefdoms. We brought democracy, law, education and, perhaps most important to modern Indians, the railroads. True, we also extracted considerable wealth from the area; but at least we felt some duty to leave some legacy in its place, unlike the other imperial powers of the 19th century.
And Australia? Yes, we released our criminals there. And, much like the rabbits that we also introduced, or the cane toads that Americans brought over, they wreaked terrible damage on the indigenous populations. We're sorry about that, but they do seem to be doing ok now. Even if the best scientist they can muster is Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter (even the Kiwis managed Ernst Rutherford).
It must be said that some terrible things did happen in the execution of all of this, but it is hardly fair to blame the modern English for the actions of people from earlier times. We do not hold modern Italians responsible for the brutality and slavery of the Roman Empire, modern Mongolians for the depredations of Genghis Khan or modern Canadians for Celene Dion. Ok, maybe the last one, but that's still quite recent. Also bear in mind, that if English is your first language, the people who did these things are part of your past too.
Now please, can we return to a sensible discussion of what might be happening with the ffxi servers?
A month off? This will be devastating to the RMT population working out of China's sweatshops... I guess kids are going back to farming rice intead of gil for a change.
So i seen the sun for the first time in years on the 13th it was bright and my eyes really hurt... I also realized my kids were older and could speak in complete sentences... I won't mind if the servers are down for a while gives me time to spend with my wife she always nags me about spending with her... I will admit I am bored as hell and watching NCIS and Law and Order SVU with my grandmother is a lot less entertaining. I'm an american living in a Native American run town and the "We white men are the devil and they will take all their land back" comment is actually used far more frequent than you would think.. We all have our own ***to bear but I hope everything works out over there in Japanland god bless them and their addicting video games they give us year after year!
disclaimer: what happened in japan was terrible and i am in no way making light of it with the following just looking at bright side for many of ffxi's players:
this forced break from the game might actually make people enjoy it more when it comes back online due to the fact that many people get burned out by playing a lot (myself included) instead of pushing people away from the game as mentioned earlier in this thread it could result in a fresh feeling to the game for many of us.
all im gonna say is they should take as long as it takes peoples lives

Honestly i can't believe everyone is so worried about playing a game when thousands of people are dead homeless hungry cold (yeah it's cold there too)most haven't even had fresh water since the original earthquake forget about the rest. I really doubt getting SE up and running is on a top priority in japan atm i really doubt anyone working in the SE facility is worried about moving servers so some whiny kids that dont know what else to do with there time can be happy. More than likely the employees or scrambling to get the hell out before they end up in a nuclear blast or maybe trying to find family in a not so far off town that was Destroyed by water fire or earthquakes. I miss playing as much as the next guy but wtf really....

I agree with Tortuga and anyone else that has said something along those lines. I have friends that were affected by the quake, and am severely thankful that they are ok. However there is so many ppl that didnt make it through. I for one am going to take the money that I'm not getting charged by SE and donating it to help Japan. Seems like the right thing to do considering the circumstances.
