Haiti is a third-world hell hole and always has been. Their donations were pocketed by their corrupt government. Japan is a totally different story. Incomparable as far as I'm concerned.
True. Although the key is knowing where your money goes.
Going to the source of humanitarian organizations are probably your best bet. ie: salvation army/red cross etc. not so much salvation army some of the workers have been reported of being not so giving
Guess nobody is free from corruption. Sheesh.
Well unless you're Sean *** Penn, there's not much to be done aside from going down there for direct volunteer labor which in the end is significantly more valuable than almost any donation can cover.

My 2 accounts and 10 mules see nothing wrong with doing this.
stfu about losing a week or two of gameplay, nerds. tens of thousands of people are dead. millions are without power, food, water, medicine, porn, work, loved ones, etc... and all you care about in your pathetic little world is not being able to log in to a GAME?? (and by "pathetic little world" I mean your parents basement).
natural disaster > ffxi. deal with it.
Hey involuntarily force people to donate to Japan. SOUNDS GOOD TO ME.
At least it is not as dumb as people wishing they bill us.
are you HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE? i said nothing about forcing you to donate. I don't think SE has any legal obligation whatsoever to give you a free month of service to start with, so stfu.
and it's exactly the same as people wishing they bill us. you get billed every month. why should this month be any different?? you shouldn't get a bill because mother nature decided to *** some ***up in Japan?
you are precisely the *** that my "stfu about losing a week or two of gameplay, nerds" comment was directed at. Thank you.
*** morons just can't be helped. I am sorry for you =/
mmm. that was a good comeback. I'm glad you're sorry for me because I care about humanity and not about just watching pixels on a screen and beating off to hentai. you're cool.
So how long are you going to make an *** out of us both while you blatantly assume random ***about me. While at the same time have your heart bleeding into your butt which is so hurt it deserves a *** medal. I'm assuming nothing (ok, the hentai comment was a bit cheap) and my butt doesn't hurt and my heart isn't bleeding for Japan. I have no vested interest in Japan as a country, or its people. I do HAVE a heart, though...and would like to see SE make a contribution to help.
I didn't make an *** out of you. Who wrote the first post to complain about an idea? you.
By Artemicion 2011-03-13 07:03:23
Heart in the right place, fingers on the wrong keys.
Your idea is admirable, really. It's just unfortunate that since SE is in the business of providing an entertainment service with recurring fees with something as sensitive as people's debit cards, they simply can't put up their own lemonade stand in the middle of it and say they're giving donations. Just too much trouble, too much legal hassle, too big a margin for error.
I hope you understand.

This. It's why I have never knowingly donated a dollar in my life. My time? Yes, but never money. Whenever money is involved you can always guarantee that corruption and greed aren't far behind.
You guys might feel better about yourself by clicking 10 bucks away to some charity website, but in the end your as likely padding someones pocket as you are helping people in need.

I wonder now, what would happen to all the items in AH. are they going to go back to everyone's Delivery Box, or their time in AH resumes when someone plugs up the servers again?
All items into delivery box is a lot of *** i dont wanna imagine right now.

All items into delivery box is a lot of *** i dont wanna imagine right now. if you look at the server status its classed as maintenance therefore time should stand still and when they're back up all NM timers and the like should be reset.
but in SE's world anything can happen

well, think of it positive. considering you have all abyssites, when FF11 is gone for a month, you ll have 90 new traverserr stones when its back^^
in the current situation they just have to see.
as far as i understood it, they(meaning the power company and governmental forces) are actually shutting down certain districsts/amounts of power/electricity down by force to prevent blackouts.
depending on how fast they can clean up the damages and rebuild the electricity equipment and eventually how much radiation is coming from the nuclear plants it could be a relatively short period of 2-3 weeks, or take several months.
if last thing should happen, they have of course to think about to get their hardware elsewhere, not for us online nerds, but for the ppl employed by them: no income, no payment for their employess(after a certain time at least).
in any case, lets just hope the nuclear plants can be get under controlled again before the worst of all cases happens.

It will be the same as any other maintenance, 'time' continues to flow because events are based off real life time, not server uptime otherwise, the FFXI crafting timer would always be off.
Had they continued to run the servers and then a major blackout occurred, then maybe something could have happened but they no doubt have some serious backup supplies and would have time to shut everything down properly. As long as the physical location where the servers are stays unharmed, we're fine. If a nuclear reactor meltdowns next to them... sorry guys.

Well all I have to say is that those 20 min. I spent checking my connection and trying to figure out why the hell the internet worked for everything but FFXI was all in vain ; ; The plus is I still have internet and Netflicks to keep me entertained for a week of FFXIless monotony. Really can't be that bad. Good thing there is cloud cover this week in forecast XD

I'm kind of surprised that the servers were not shut down sooner, but I really respect SE's decision to do so given the circumstances that Japan is under.
Plus, this gives us all time to turn our attention to the more important things in life; family, friends, school, work, etc.
My best wishes to Japan.

so i got thru a page and a half before i realized this thread was going no where..but i did get two things out of those who posted in the first two pages...
1.
keep in mind this is a worldwide forum~
2.
@Fenrir.Snick
horrible...
take into consideration the phrase 'every little bit helps' or however it goes. perhaps $13 could feed a family for xx amount of days; could fund its portion for medical assistance; could fund other support programs to assist in the tragedy; etc. is that not more important to you than getting back on your VIDEO GAME? if not, you are one sincerely insensitive ***. i hope you're embarrassed for posting what you did and before you decide to write back and further troll on this thread, reread this, then reread it again. then, turn on the tv and watch the news and see what's happening. if you're that empty hearted then may God help you.
