Does rupture mean there's just cracks extending, or that there's now a gaping hole?

That's what I immediately wondered :| But I think it means there's a 50-mile-wide gaping hole...

Wow, this is pretty bad.. I think someone mentioned something about Japan having an earthquake last night just as I was going to bed, but I never expected anything like this.

I heard about it last night while I was skilling up, so I was only half there and didn't completely think. :/ Now that I've heard the whole thing, this really is awful for Japan, so add another one sending condolences.

1958: The Japanese ambassador to the UK, Keiichi Hayashi, has told the BBC it is impossible to impossible to estimate the number of dead at this stage: "We are still in the process in the process of determining what happened and it looks like there are a number of missing people in addition to the number of victims that we have so far counted. It is not just Japanese nationals about whom we are concerned. There are nearly 20,000 British nationals in Japan, but I have not heard of any casualties among UK nationals."

You could hear his voice cracking, too, he was really working to keep it together. :(
