The dark undertones of the last few books (I don't know everything, but I have an understanding of them) will actually be a perfect segue for getting into reading like Milton's Paradise Lost or Dante's Inferno. I absolutely see the benefit in having HP on my curriculum. I don't think I'd go so far as to make it required reading, but depending on the district standards, they may ask that I have students read an allotment of books before their year is complete, to which I can make recommendations. A series that morphs and becomes more adult would be perfect for students going into reading the classics when they enter college.

So I've been reading Harry Potter for the past 2-3 hours and am at about page 184. So far... I dunno. I can't really get into it. I can see why it appeals to kids, but I don't think I'll continue in the series when I'm done with this book.
The series kinda matures along side Harry, the first couple books are definitely for children but I would have a hard time recommending the later books to children. Just my take on it though.
I think it was the right move.

She wasn't releasing the books at an extraordinarily fast rate, so she wanted to keep the books with the age group she originally aimed for.

Now it might be a bit controversial for kids today, but I think it was the right move to keep the fans interested after each book came out.
Yeah it is definitely what kept me going with the books. If they were all like the first one I probably would have stopped half way though.
