Personally, if I was the ninja I would focus on blinding him and crippling his legs as long as I can mantain the distance. Once in melee, if he's weakened enough I would feel more secure to attempt to eviscerate him with the sword since I should be in better shape to turn around him faster etc hitting his sides.
If I was the spartan I'd be more worried at the start because charging head down a ranged attacker without backup is dangerous. However if I catch him with minimal consequences I could easily overpower him in sword combat.

Of course it's a really stupid situation cause if you're fighting a spartan than there's probably a samurai on the other side, not a *** ninja. And if the ninja was sent then you're not facing him in the open battlefield.

1 vs 1 broad combat, where the ninja was on his way to buy some milk from the grocerer, he's toast.
1 vs 1 where the spartan was looking for wal-mart to buy the latest Nicki Minaj CD he's toast.
The more units you throw into the situation the better the odds grows for the Spartans.

I see what you're saying, but I meant it more as, there are valid points for both sides, but unless we have a REAL LIFE ninja and spartan who will grace us with a showing of combat, there is no real way to determine who would win besides a comparison of tactics/strategies which still doesn't provide a "concrete" answer.
It is fun to think about though
