Wait till FF15 comes out, then everyone will praise FF13 just like what happens with every FF.
What I loved about FF13 was the ranking system in the battles, it made it so if you wanted to challange yourself you could but since there was no benefit to 5 staring fights (XII-2 there was but not in the first) you wern't punished if you wanted to lazy through some normal fights. Since the time req was based off the combined level of your group's weapons that forced you to actually develope various stratagys and be very active in you swaping.
I have a play through where I used just lv1 weapons and accessorys and super fun for me since once you hit the airship even random fights will spank you if you arn't carful.

Skyrim is only amazing if you have no prior experience playing quality RPGs. I like open-exploration... I don't need to be told what to do next. :3
You sound like you are saying that Skyrim, Morrowind, Daggerfall etc are responsible for that sub genre?

Okay, I'll fess up.
When I initially played FFXIII, I let my minor grievances overwhelm me.
The linearity was bad enough to call it quits for me, but the combination of ludicrous action sequences combined with impractical sci-fi elements and lackluster cast with over emphasized melodrama and countless made up words to warrant it's own glossary left me feeling rather alienated as being somewhat of a purist when it comes to the FF franchise.
However, I have slowly but surely come to accept that this is simply a more modernized and thus a wider spread target audience appeal that has simply left me behind with my rose-tinted nostalgia glasses. I have come to accept and even somewhat appreciate bits and pieces that make it a "modern" RPG title; as to whether or not it is worthy of being a Final Fantasy in my eyes has yet to be determined, at least up until I finish it. But if it makes you feel better, I can (to some degree) hop on board with the given story scenario and relatively buoyant techonish soundtrack. Hopefully the outcome redeems the less than remarkable stage set at the beginning.

The fight ranking in XIII actually determines drop rates.
And to platinum the game you had to five star all the Cie'th Stone Hunts and the Final Boss.

Though I will say, one thing FF13 did right was the weapon upgrade system.
I too got a bit weary of simply finding a +1 with a different name in the next adjacent town/village. It makes more sense improving what you already have than constantly replacing your goods and overencumbering yourself throughout your journey.

I will admit though, that Daggerfall did contribute to the emergence of open ended rpg, but the ball was rolling from a decade before with the Legend of Zelda and Link to the Past as the games responsible for the beginning of non linear open world gameplay. Mario 64 brought it into the mainstream more than Daggerfall ever did.

Looking up the genre, it appears I lied. They weren't my first "open world" games. :p

I enjoyed the voice acting in 13 even though I don't really like the game but Hope and Vanille were *** terrible. He's a whiny little douche and she has an orgasm whenever she hits a mob.

Curious, is there still a grinding element within XIII?
Or is it one of those totally optional things if you want to blaze through the game or maximize your exploits in side quests and easter egg goods?

Oblivion was a step backwords from Morrowind imo, and Skyrim a step backwords from Oblivion :/

Eh, to each their own. I just find it strange we have like minded tendencies to what makes a great game, yet simultaneously contrast on games we criticize and praise.

Yes, in some spots you need to grind a bit. You can get by with minimal grinding if you are good at Paradigm Shifting and have a decent Paradigm Deck though. I'd still recommend grinding a bit regardless.

You will pritty much get all the exp you need as long as you keep moving forwards as long as you stick to the characters main 3 roles. When you hit pulse you will need to carfully pick with fights you hit and which you avoid though if you don't stop to level up at all.
Post game definetly requires some grinding though

As I have done a lot in the past and will no doubt be guilty of in the future, when people review games they tend to mix up how good a game actually is with how much they enjoyed it. I really enjoyed FFX, but it still only gets 4 out of 5 for me.

You have to grind for gil. Enemies don't drop gil, you get all of it from selling drops. Gil is mostly useless until you get to Gran Pulse, which is when upgrading weapons becomes a VERY good idea and when more materials are available, where it becomes significantly easier to farm.
Grinding for CP is mostly a post-game thing to do. They'll generally give you enough enemies to kill for your Crystarium to fill out or you'll get plenty of CP while farming gil.
EDIT: Now that I think about it, there are really only three places before Gran Pulse where you can actually grind.

I suppose I see what you're saying. A game can be very well done but simply not strike a chord with the player and their concept of enjoyment. I can't help but feel that's similar to what has happened to me with XIII. I can acknowledge that it is a remarkable game in it's own right, but simply contrasts heavily with the elements within a FF that I find particularly enjoyable, or rather conducive to my previous levels of awe and appreciation.

Too much sleep... I think I need a person to be my alarm clock. Sure I wake up with a normal alarm, but with a person they can actually throw me out of my bed. x.x

There's more effective methods I'm sure. Some positive, some a bit more negative, but all effective.

Donating alarm clock... eeeeh, I'm already broke, not sure how well that would work in the first place. lmao
Edit: Broke the thread again.

What kind of Cat is that?
By Leonkasai 2012-09-26 16:02:44
So I've decided to revisit my old idea of making FF miniatures. :x
I'm not gonna rush straight into trying human characters because I know I'll need more practice before I can make non-derp faces, so I'll start with monsters. :O
What I need to decide on first, however, is a scale... Any ideas? :I
I should point out that anything 28mm or smaller (for an average adult) is no good; I played some Warhammer 40k back in high school and making non-derp faces that small would be hell.
Also, suggestions as to which monsters to do would be cool too. Nothing ridiculously big like Evrae or Long Gui; modelling putty isn't exactly cheap. ^^;
Edit: Or maybe something non-FF. So long as it's all the same scale, I don't mind making stuff from other series.

I keep breaking my cheap knives... so I went ahead and bought a name brand cheap knife this time to see if it helps.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001T7H010/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
~.~ Literally the day it shipped, had someone go "Hey I found your good knife in my couch." But alas, it was a cheapish one as well it was just the one in best condition.
Edit:
Forgot to mention that cat looks like it has Down's syndrome or something Chu.

Ooooh! I can't believe I didn't think of them! D:
Barbariccia and Rubicante would either be done last or after a few other monsters because they're people, but I really like that idea. :D
Tonberry is cool, too. Nice and simple, but a fun design. :O
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
