Fun article on guns. Just for information's sake! http://guncite.com/swissgun-kopel.html To be honest, I don't think our government could handle knowing that the citizens aren't armed. I think they would teeter dangerously close to a tyranny if they ever got the idea that we couldn't stand up and fight if we had to. Paranoid? Maybe. But they really can't be trusted.
Here's my gripe with your post... in order for the government to assert that kind of control over the american people they would rely on current law enforcement and the armed forces... now do you really beleive the people we tout as the protectors of our nation would turn on us like that? To support government Tyranny? Unless there is some other way that I'm missing?

I think it would be split, both in citizens and armed forces. Especially if it was one political party trying to take control of the other-- so for example, if the democrats decided those darn republicans just didn't know what they were doing and decided to take over everything, then the democratic citizens and armed forces would back them while the republican citizens and armed forces would not. Likewise, if the republicans decided those stinky democrats just weren't cutting it, the republican people and militants would back them while the democratic people and militants would fight.

Obviously that's a worst-case scenario and of course it's all such an opinion thing that I can't even call it a hypothesis. It's just what I think would happen in a civil war scenario, if in fact removing the peoples' right to arms would spark a tyranny and civil war.

Anyways, the main point is, I don't trust the government to behave themselves in the event that they realized they didn't have to behave themselves.
Yeah I like that Liela brings up rights of arms in this case, because I'll be honest I'm pretty sure that's the context it's supposed to be used in. Not have all the guns you ever want kinda thing, instead you have a right to a gun in order to defend yourself. Mostly because everything the red coats did etc.
Albeit this is coming purely from a historic point of view.

It doesn't make sense to me though... beacause in that situation its half of the country supporting it and half not... so it's not really even the government itself trying to take control... you're implying that a political party and its ideals are trying to take over...

I still don't agree with the thoguht that government tries to legislate with the worry of the citizens having guns or that they would salivate at the corrupt thought of a nation without... hell the pubs pretty much try to shove the opportunity to own a gun down every American's throat.. It's always the Dems that are fighting that...

The reason for the 2nd Amendment is so that they don't turn on us. It is a standing threat to the government saying: if you cross that line, we will end you. And the short answer is, yes, it is a feasible possibility at all times. Our duty as citizens is to keep the government in check by all means necessary, including bloody revolution if it's required.

Look Flavin, you can cry and whine all you like if you don't like what I say, you don't have to read it. The proof is right there in front of you on the news. How many more innocent lives must be thrown away because of people like you and your view of 'oh it doesn't matter people have guns they will just think of some other method to kill people anyway', yeh, because that happens everywhere else with strict gun ownership policies.

But that's fine, you just go on ignoring the problem because nobody you care about got shot.

How many times will I have to listen to people that whine and cry like you while ignoring the real problems? You ignore pretty much everything else and say its inevitable and then lay all the blame at the feet of guns lol... fact is you don't really know much of anything at all about gun violence in America... You read a few articles here and there and you think yourself informed on the matter lol...

Also, its not just a matter of "oh it doesn't matter if people have guns people will find some other way" well first off you yourself had said that people have been killing eachother since the beginning of time yeah? they didn't always have guns right? lol... and I didn't argue that they were a more effective way either... mostly I just have a problem with your lax attitude about violence in general and the blame you lay at the feet of guns alone... you think making guns illegal will stop gun violence? You don't really propose any solution at all... you also ignore any good guns have served... you just throw a blanket statement out there that you're most likely parroting from someone else...

You should actually take into account the size of the country you're comparing in population.
Comparing the US to other nations is pointless.
Say what you want but the murder rate here isn't near as bad comparatively as it is in other nations.
Problem being we are the source of all world media thus anything that happens here is on the news.
If we want to talk about gun problems and things that need fixed maybe we should bring up warlords in Africa.

People just like to make attacks at the US, we really should stop putting out news out there for everyone and should just hush it up like other nations.

I see people getting shot.

Innocent people in a civilian environment.

I see lax gun laws.

This is not a difficult connection to make, would you like a little drawing to help illustrate the connection I'm making?

Putting weapons in the hands of those who are not responsible to use them results in tragedy. Not everybody who is able to attain a firearm is responsible enough to use one. Making it easy to attain these firearms is irresponsible.

I can't use population in a comparative sense Uri, according to Flavin population has absolutely no bearing on probability.

Walking by a playground today, i saw a little guy, maybe 3 or 4 standing on a bench. His mom yelled at him 'What are you doing?' and he yelled back very excited 'PARCOUR!!'

Totally random and not all that funny, but i thought it was adorable and made me laugh on my way home >.>
