Oh come on it's blatantly obvious it was designed to appeal to a younger audience, it's gimmicky and cheap. The summons have consistently been a spiritual aspect of the series then they go and turn them into these gimmicky machines.
Mad cuz things don't stay the same.

It's a post-apocalyptic future, isn't it?

It's more of a world where magic and technology are irreversibly integrated.

Changing things is fine, but it's sad and almost insulting to fans to see something so majestic made to look so silly.

I don't see why it being a post apocalyptic setting should influence them, the influence I suppose comes from the biomechanical development given to PSICOM by the Fal'Cie for use on monsters.
