The most I can jam into this desktop is 4gigs, I think. I was planning to do that eventually, but it might be better in the long run to save up for a newer PC. It will probably run XP, and if you add more ram it can run 32bit 7, but for compatibility I'd say XP I'm trying out this Mini-Linux thing and it's... nice. <_< I may have to dual-boot Linux and Windows eventually... Scanning my HDD right now what speed ram do you have in there right now? the 4200 stock? you can get 2 1gb sticks and be good. Vista is a downgrade from XP imo, triboot? :D (Ubuntu should be a rather easy into distro, but my friend would recommend Slackware or Debian I'd think). I've barely scraped the surface of using it. Sooo I may have been running on .5gb this whole time. This bodes ill. Whatever version of Linux this Hiren's Boot CD runs is what I want :P My sister uses "cookies" as a codename for sex.

Whatever version of Linux this Hiren's Boot CD runs is what I want :P thought it came with 2 256's I closed the window now and don't feel like reopening it. that's partedmagic, not sure if that's a full distro, but they are more or less the same, and have the same tools if I understand it correctly. you have the option to use several kinds of ram, if you boot into the mini xp there's a tool on the hirens to do a full system info, um... hbcd menu > system information > siw (system information for windows) will tell you all sorts of things, but basically the speed of your ram sticks is what we're looking for. i like this manatee :P
I have a 512mb and a 1gb in.
Now that I think about it, this must have had just the one stick when I bought it. I'm really hoping the 1gb stick isn't the one with the errors. Asura.Chuuuuu said: » wat :x i like cookies D: ![]() Ramuh.Laffter said: » I'm so gonna try to make those sometime. I'd do it with something else..
Believe it or not, I'm not a huge fan of Oreos.. I mean when it's all mixed up in like ice cream or something, then they're pretty good... Ramuh.Laffter said: » I have a 512mb and a 1gb in. I'm really hoping the 1gb stick isn't the one with the errors. yeah but what speed? your slots will take multiple ddr2 speeds non ecc but whatever you have in should be the SAME speed, like it came with 4200, but you can replace it with 5300. aka ddr 2667 (is the 5300) it's the kind I'm using in the desktop I just bought off my gf's mom. it's rather cheap (but not as cheap as I was hoping) and you can find a good quality cheap pciex16 video card for it on newegg. like less than $100 to max out the ram and upgrade the video and it would run a good bit better. I'd give closer prices but I'm about to go to bed. I like doublestuff oreos as I really only like the middle, the outside if I have milk.

trying to get up in 6 hours and I'm not exactly tired... gah. Valefor.Slipispsycho said: » I'd do it with something else.. Believe it or not, I'm not a huge fan of Oreos.. Ramuh.Laffter said: » Ugh, HDD test did not find any errors. I'm gonna continue this stuff tomorrow, going to bed ~.~ I forgot to mention, since this is a desktop. take the side of the case off, and take a look inside, there's going to be cylinder like components on the motherboard all around, they should have flat tops, are any of them bulging? and no hdd errors is a good thing. if they're bulging, it's not good, but would explain some things. Doesn't appear to be any bulging.
And I'm mad it's not an HDD error because now I don't know what the *** is wrong :x lol The only thing the test found was a Reallocated Sector Count at worst value, but marks it down as old-age. probably just a software glitch.
and that's good as well, since software issues are cheaper to deal with. It could be the ram, and would cause some severe issues... that's the last thing to check though. after you do a RAM check, I'd wipe and put XP on if you can, but I've never pulled off getting it to install from a usb stick, but my friend has (with driver packs and driverbomb) so I'll ask him what he did. Browser is still crashing like it would in normal mode too.
