The strategy I'm using is to equip Avenger (counterattack weapon), haste myself, have Loner overdrive mode on (charges every turn you're alone), and stay alive while switching weapon repeatedly to go through turns faster and use my overdrive when I can. No attacking at all.
I have to have my other party members kill themselves also, since I can't run away, wasting a few turns waiting for them to die so my overdrive can charge ~.~

Isn't there a place before that you can get a piercing weapon to drop? I don't remember where, I just remember Lulu having a weapon with it on it and looking confused. That could have been later though :/
I wanna try that FFX challenge sometime, but it sounds difficult, even with your other characters dead, because they automatically return to 1 HP after battle right?

My school just dropped me from my summer classes because my final balance due was $0. That's right, they dropped me because I owe them NOTHING. Went to the student service center and spent 2 hours with people finding that to be hilarious and not knowing how to fix it before they figured out I needed to fill out a veteran status verification form, to make sure that I'm not any less of a veteran now than I was 3 months ago.

It's pretty hard since at this point, I've been unlucky getting armor drops with elemental properties, so I die to Elementals and casters pretty quickly. I have all of Tidus' overdrives already though. <_<

You only kill them on bosses, you're supposed to escape them normally. (If I remember the challenge rules right...)
While I kinda like the challenge of it, I lean more towards beating the monster arena guys w/o celestial weapons, break damage limit, or ompc. Stuff like that. Stuff I won't get meteorically annoyed at >.>;

Yeah, sounds like you're going to rely on running away from elementals until you get some good elemental properties on weapons and armor. I think the greatest question is: Which direction did you decide to go for Tidus' sphere grid, since he's more or less in the center? You can pretty much branch off to the left for Yuna's area to get magic buffs, or to the right towards Auron's area for melee buffs.

I thought about Yuna's, but you get a large amount of gil playing a Tidus-only game and items are faster than casting Cures.
