You know, Chuuuuuuuuuuu... You could use ground up anchovy paste instead of just salt. It's more full bodied, and is actually kinda better because it's jam packed with Omega 3s. But yeah, with salty stuffage, less is more. Gotta be sparing with it. We're talking adding pinches to taste. And unless you're baking, always always always taste it (assuming nothing raw or uncooked can give you a disease like Salmonella or anything) before adding more.
The original recipe is closely guarded, but basically consists of anchovies layered in brine, tamarinds in molasses, garlic in vinegar, chilies, cloves, shallots, and sugar.
You'd be surprised how many sauces (especially Italian) have anchovies in them.

It's amazing, it's great to marinade burgers in too before you cook it.
It's also used in chex mix, or at least when the people I know make it.
I used to eat it on pork chops, I may have to go back to it too as A1 upsets my stomach.
