Greetings and salutations everyone.
To me, I see Ash tried to force Pikachu into his pokeball and ended up throwing it at him, striking Pikachu on the head cracking it open. Pikachu then proceeded to snap and tear Ash limb from limb, but not before the T-cell virus had taken over completely causing him to not only destroy ash but to also consume him. Looks like turning his hat around wasn't enough to save Ash this time.
