Random Thoughts.....What are you thinking?

Sometimes it got on my professor's nerves. I did use MASM (Microsoft's Assembler) for my assembly language class though. I wouldn't object now to use Microsoft Visual Studio, for free of course. If I have to pay, then other brands. (I HATE YOU SQL) Artemicion said: » Bahamut.Krizz said: » /backreading A+ is one of the stupidest certs out there. Don't waste your time. Get Network+ or Security+. From my understanding, A+ is really generalized and only reflects general knowledge and competence with computer hardware. Obviously other certificates such as the ones you mentioned will open up more doors and get you in than A+ will ever go, but it's still a reasonable thing to aim for when starting out. Worst case I know through the VA I can snag military contract jobs overseas, though that means the Yokos have to go in stoarge XD Bahamut.Savannahlynn said: » I still have vouchers to take my A+ Certification if I wanted... Go to a local/city/state school parttime, take 5-8 years if you must, but don't piss the money on some *** like University of Phoenix. Bottom of the food chain in essence it seems. But certainly a reasonable stepping stone to start with. I'll be getting a new phone soon too..
http://www.boostmobilestore.com/bpdirect/boost/PhoneList.do?action=view&id=transformultra That's what I'll be getting.. Qwerty keyboard and Android Market are musts for me, so my options are pretty much limited.. But my wife has it and I like it. I'll never again touch another Blackberry... Did I say serious? I meant hilarious. If I turn in a decent picture of an Eskimo tomorrow morning with my classified homework, then I don't have to do part of the assignment tonight <_> but I cannot draw. Also I never saw this coming in a million billion years. My god, I'm going to miss my BE instructor.

All I know is that everytime (and I mean EVERYTIME) I go to meet with my unemployment officer he pushes these jobs on me. It is always some crappy sounding job in the middle east doing stuff for either the marines or the army. Comsec manager jobs mostly, but a few other ones pop up sometimes too. Im getting it at a college walking distance from my house
Its a 4 year degree >: Bahamut.Krizz said: » Artemicion said: » Bahamut.Krizz said: » /backreading A+ is one of the stupidest certs out there. Don't waste your time. Get Network+ or Security+. I have to go through Boost though, it's the only thing we can afford.. Well we can afford Cricket which is even cheaper but I'd rather rely on a landline than deal with Cricket.. Worst damn service and phones ever. I wanna get a new phone too, but have no idea what would be an ideal step up from my old 3G My Touch Slide.
QWERTY keyboard is mandatory for me. Overseas is good money, but I won't do it. Not only am I now a single parent, but risking my life isn't worth the extra money. (I don't care how 'safe' the area is supposed to be. Only place I would willingly work at overseas is South Korea, and that's pushing it.) I'd pay good money for that. Yomisha and Anye, too, I bet. Artemicion said: » Bahamut.Krizz said: » Artemicion said: » Bahamut.Krizz said: » /backreading A+ is one of the stupidest certs out there. Security and Networking as you mentioned? what do you want to do? fix/IT etc? or just be working on a computer? imo if you can grasp the concepts programming is the route, and building a portfolio would be better than anything. but that's what I've gathered from observing people in the field. Worst damn service and phones ever. We pay through the nose for our phones. That's the reason we dropped our TV service. We used one, not so much the other. If we had viable options I would try to swap, but there's just nothing that offers any type of service along the way to my parents' or my wife's parents house. Network+ Any other certs that are directly related to the field you are in. For the more advanced you have CISSP, CCNA, etc. Those on the management side will want to look at ITIL. If you want to write software, portfolio/github/webdev is the way to go.
If you want to design software and interface between levels of programming and management and ***, portfolio/a damn good senior design project with the best documentation on the market. If you want to build hardware, release an open source driver or at least contribute to a few, stuff like that. If you want to build videogames and ***like that, get a math minor and prepare for heartbreak. If you want to do network security, take lots of crypto and discrete courses. I've always held a better understanding and knack for hardware more so than software. Programming, making code and making adjustments therein is something I could do with the right education and courses, but frankly isn't something I would really want to put myself into as far as serious jobs or careers go.
Ideally, I rather work directly with hardware, bloody up my fingers a bit and keep them working/put together. I don't exactly know what I want yet :| i just figured a CS degree would have more options than getting a degree in like history or english (no offense to people with those majors)

CS isn't about programming, btw. It's about problem solving. Just know that going in.
