I got network+ for free, it was some limited time offer when I signed up for A+ and some other beta network thing.

At the time it was what I needed for a job at CompUSA. Now it's gotten me a steady $40k/year job for the past 2.25 years or so.
However I think I'm pretty much capped out on salary as there were no raises this year.

I'm getting a 2 year CS degree for right now, hoping that with that and 5 years IT experience from the Navy I can land a decent job while I work on a better degree on the side. Worst case I know through the VA I can snag military contract jobs overseas, though that means the Yokos have to go in stoarge XD

I need to get a hold of a good IDE though. The last programming software I have is C++ Builder ver 6.0, which is like 9 years old, lol.

From my understanding, A+ is really generalized and only reflects general knowledge and competence with computer hardware. Obviously other certificates such as the ones you mentioned will open up more doors and get you in than A+ will ever go, but it's still a reasonable thing to aim for when starting out.

I used to have this thing also where I refuse to use any Microsoft product, except Windows. Back in the day I would use C++ Builder, or Corel Word Perfect. Sometimes it got on my professor's nerves.
I did use MASM (Microsoft's Assembler) for my assembly language class though.
I wouldn't object now to use Microsoft Visual Studio, for free of course. If I have to pay, then other brands.

Don't get an online CS degree, whatever you do. ***is laughable and useless.
Go to a local/city/state school parttime, take 5-8 years if you must, but don't piss the money on some *** like University of Phoenix.
