You're always supposed to get at least 1 rest day in (beginners). As you start moving up, you'll need more as you target specific groups.
Now, if you wanted to work out 2 days in a row, and hit two totally different muscle groups, that's fine, but yea, get your rest in don't overrtrain by doing the same thing before getting a chance to properly recover.
