Your post is not inappropriate, Daus. For your friend, if s/he could not dedicate the care and time needed for the special needs dog, then putting it down painlessly may have been the kindest thing s/he could have done for it. But that doesn't mean you have to do the same. And having a special needs pet doesn't mean your own life has to stop, either. It's not too much to ask for someone to watch your pet for you so you can take a break sometimes. If no one is able to, maybe there's a pet sitter in your town? We have a boarding kennel here which would not be good if your pet needs constant supervision, but we also have pet sitters here which would be much more one-on-one time with your pooch.

actually, the funny thing is that she was kind of the one I was hoping would be free to watch my dog. She's a DVM I used to work with >.o
kennels Im pretty sure arent going to work..ignoring the last time I had my dog kenneled (10 years ago?) where I cried the whole week out of guilt...she definitely needs an eye on her constantly. She falls down alot and cant get up, which sounds like a haha joke...but falls are her main problem. She cant be on carpet because of potential incontinence episodes and if kept on hard floors she cant get a grip when standing so she'll fall, not be able to stand, have a panic attack, lose her bowels and then lay in it.
Im afraid of strangers to. Id be that freak pet owner with a large manual on how to care for said pet.

But she had darn good reason, and in the same situation, I'd have probably done the same to try to save my people. Not to mention the fact that Samson was an utter and complete moron about it-- he lied to her several times about what gave him strength and saw for himself that each time she betrayed it. Yet he was dumb enough to tell her the truth the last time, knowing that she would betray it again. What an idiot. Except they were in love first. The entirety of why she did it was based upon monetary gain. Nothing to do with being valiant :(
Samson was only a little bit dumb. He really thought that by the last time he would trust her, or you know, that she wasn't going to sell him out to the Philistines. Both peoples were at war with one another, and as for Delilah being Philistine I can't remember if it stated she was or if he just happened upon her at the border. I know his first love was, but she died lol.
Anyway though, enough of that. >_> Let's go with the Delilah from that Plain White Ts song instead.

I have to leave my dog in a boarding kennel for several days coming up really soon. I am sad about it, and have cried a few times over it. I know I'll be bawling like a madwoman when we drop her off. But she loves meeting new people and loves meeting new animals, so I think it will be all right. I'm just upset that she's going to think we abandoned her. Never, sweet Pixel! We're keeping you forever!
But when I looked up what it would be like if she flew with us to see my family, it was truly horrifying. We have three layovers on the way there and three on the way back, and the chances of her not making it onto the next flight with us are uncomfortably high. The temperature during the few hours in between each flight is not controlled, and it will be 100+ degrees in some of the places. I'm not leaving her out in the sun with no air conditioning in 100 degree weather for three hours. No. And since airlines are not generally concentrated on pet care, she would also get no food or water for the duration, no comforting human contact at all during landings and takeoffs (she'd be terrified the whole time), and if she did not make it onto one of our flights she would be left with luggage for who knows how long without food or water. Pets have been left with lost luggage for days with no food, water, or contact before, and pets have died in the uncontrolled temperatures between flights before. I refuse to inflict that kind of terror and misery on her.
We will be gone from early the 1st to late the 7th, so she will be at the boarding kennel from as late as we can drop her off the 31st til as early as we can pick her up the 8th. I think the first couple days she will have fun because there will be other dogs for her to play with. She LOVES other dogs. I think after a couple days she will be bored and homesick, and I think the last couple days she's there she'll be sad and depressed. But we will be back to get her just as soon as we can. The hardest for her will be nights, because she sleeps with my husband and I in our bed and she will have to sleep alone in the kennel. Bleh.
That is so sad about your dog's condition. :-( I hope she's not in any pain. I did have to put down my childhood dog when she was older because she had legs and back problems and would fall down like that, and it was obvious she was in pain. I couldn't handle seeing her hurting, so I had her put to sleep. It sucks. :-( Is your dog's condition treatable?

Well, what you have to remember about that whole story is that it was also written from an extremely biased and one-sided point of view. The authors of the Bible would never be fair enough to say what was happening from Delilah's side. I doubt most women could turn over a man they loved like that, so I have serious doubts as to whether or not Delilah ever loved Samson. It's been a long, LONG time since I've read the story, but if I recall correctly the only reason they were at war was because God told the Israelites to kill all the Philistines because God didn't like Philistines. Back then murdering people just because a god said so might have been acceptable, but I think it's a stupid reason for genocide. Actually, just about any reason at all is a stupid reason for genocide. Bleh! But yeah, the fact that she did gain financially from it (or so the authors of the Bible believe) casts a bit of doubt over her character.
But whether she was an evil manipulative gold-digger who betrayed a man for money or she was a scared girl watching her people be murdered by her lover and betrayed him to help her people, you have to admit that it's a pretty name! Delilah is a beautiful name. <3

I dont think Id say treatable...her condition is old age..haha (she's 17). I really do think she's senile and no longer in her right mind. She's selectively deaf and doesnt see well. She's frail and has arthritis in her hips (and probably every joint)..recently we've been fighting UTIs. Right now we are trying to live comfortably, as long as she's eating, drinking and walking.
If she was 7 years old again Id kennel her despite the guilt...but I dont want her tossed in a run..and she likes dog interaction but a young dog can easily knock her over and break something.

Aww Daus, I'm so sorry. Pets getting old is one of the hardest, most heartbreaking things to deal with in life, in my opinion. I wish I could give you a hug, but here, have an e-hug: *hug*

the worst part was rango. i had high hopes when he was getting bounced around the road and then landed on a car being driven by johnny depps character from fear and loathing. it was hilarious. mostly downhill after that.

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
