I just think when the national gas average for the month of May was 3.50$/gal in 2023 and 3.60$/gal in 2024, and we're at 4.50$/gal now; it was disingenuous for people to feign concern over the economy when the real war was the culture war.

There's no point in engaging in a discussion when people misconflate their ego with reason. They don't argue in good faith. They subscribe to the might makes right authoritarian mindset because in the absence of reason their first instinct is to make a call to authority for the answer. In olden times it was because God said so. The hypocrisy of Christians, where the commandments say not to take the Lord's name in vain they use the Lord's name as a mean of instilling their own authority. In modern times the kids are turning to ChatGPT.

Time is a flat circle. Where the sons are predestined to live out the same mistakes as their fathers.

95% of the game community consider Steam (and thus its c-founder and president Gabe Newell) as the primary reason why other gaming digital marketplace cant nickel and dime the *** out of their customers.
Despite steam having a large slice of the pie there are plenty of competing platforms, some of them having sales that are cheaper than what you can get on steam.
So if price was the only argument shouldn't 95% of the games community worship those outlets instead?

I've read arguments that steam offers other services like 2 hour/2 week refund windows that justify the higher price. If we're being honest though then devs avoid most of those refunds by focusing resources on the first couple of hours of gameplay.
Another argument are community hubs or workshops and I guess they can be a plus, in particular for indie devs. But then I can't help and compare steams solution to 3rd party solutions like FFXIAH and come to the conclusion they can't be the driving force behind steams success either.

I've never bought a single game on Steam but as I understand it they generally have a more favorable reputation than other marketplaces for being consumer friendly, at least in terms of giant corporations.

Some people will rage at the idea of Gabe enjoying his yacht ala Scrooge McDuck swimming in his vault of gold, and these game journalists are determined to spread that as far and wide as they can.

None of those come close to that satisfying thud that halls when a newspaper collides with a dog.
It's so good I have to wonder why news outlets haven't used this for a ad campaign.
