Random Thoughts.....What are you thinking?
Draylo said: » A new Digimon game... finally, please be good /sings "To dream the imposible dream...." RadialArcana said: » Why do guys get excited for new Nvidia graphics cards and waste money on them? Planed obsolesce. BIGGER, BETTER, HARDER, FASTER. Or, from my childhood: Longer, lower, wider. OK, that's really one reason. Garuda.Chanti said: » Or, from my childhood: Longer, lower, wider. I'm holding out for the 8090Ti so I can really optimize Solitaire and Minesweeper
I was still looking for any RTX 4060 to fit in my slim computer case. A card's size must be up to 22 cm (8.66 inches). I built my PC to run on low energy. I am not a "graphic ***" but I just want to play.
My Intel i5-13500 CPU can handle most games pretty well right now. Yes, it's a locked CPU to keep itself cooling so it can keep running FF14 24/7 without issues. Fenrir.Niflheim said: » Garuda.Chanti said: » Or, from my childhood: Longer, lower, wider. Google gave me an AI overview. Quote: "Longer, lower, and wider" refers to a trend in car design, particularly prominent in the mid-20th century, where automobiles were styled to be longer in length, lower to the ground, and wider in stance, often giving them a more sleek and aggressive appearance; this trend is often associated with the "muscle car" era in American automotive history, with cars like the Chevrolet Corvette and Ford Mustang embodying this design aesthetic. Key points about "longer, lower, and wider" Actually both the corvette and the mustang were outliers to this design philosophy. But AI does hallucinate. AI needs better hallucinogens. I could recommend a few .... Welp
My cellphone was running low on battery so it was turned off all my work time so I couldnt be here to properly monitor you, nerds. And, first thing I see when I refresh my FFXIAH page... felt like I went back to 2024, with so many threads being necroed like the Stellar, Race change, New games sucks, etc. I really cant stay out for long and you nerds misbehave... Sounds like you need a better phone
Oh, don't worry, we're doomed regardless.
You know Google owns youtube, ya?

The government threatened to require marker lights as on trucks for them. I owned one of these, 22 1/2' long! Shiva.Thorny said: » I didn't bother buying this generation. There are no good AAA games any more, so I guess I fall pretty close to Radial's views now. I wonder how many people are buying 5090 for Monster Hunter wilds? From the looks of it it'll sell pretty well I think, and a lot of people are saying they are upgrading PC for it. Years ago, there was a very active attempt to optimize games to work on less powerful hardware for PC. This was a major push at the end of dev even, and they would get roasted if they didn't do it well. Now everyone just says "upgrade your pc bro"
Now there isn't that same push and even laughable looking games run like crap, you have to wonder why. I'm sure there is no link between Nvidia wanting to sell new graphics cards continually, and games requiring higher and higher specs to run when they really do not warrant it. lolstarfield What game have you seen that actually has been worth spending thousands of dollars on a new card for, when they barely look much better than what you can see on ps5. It's not helping that they are pushing AI frame gen into everything now too, which is making a blurred mess. Unreal engine is a bag of crap too, so widespread adoption of that isn't helping anyone but Nvidia. Kaffy said: » Were you a ghostbuster? Doesn't help that the modern gamer will (pre)order anything that looks remotely good and be fine with not refunding or playing it if they don't like it. Why bother doing anything past the minimum? Talking of DEI.
That new Star Trek movie though, what a masterpiece. Absolute kino, and the director Olatunde Osunsanmi should be proud of the amazing work he did. What a superstar that will continue to fail upwards into success and money. Also the 2 amazing female writers, amazing. Lets hope these superstars go on to write bigger and better things, maybe star wars!? fingers crossed! Shiva.Thorny said: » I think the simpler answer is that AAA games are not focused on stability or performance any more. If optimizations are made, they're just to ensure that dumpster mode can run on PS5/xbox with DLSS. I don't think there's some scheme with nvidia to make games more demanding, just DEI hiring practices and incompetence across the board. If this is the case, then Dragon Age Veilguard wouldn't be optimized at all. Since Bioware is a very DEI company. But DAV is known to be an extremely well optimized game despite the company is DEI. There is really only one reason why companies don't always put that much resources on optimization: Reward:Effort ratio. The money/time will always go to a department that yields the best return. And optimization isn't on the highest priority because you aren't winning GoTY or getting 90+ metacritic scores if your game is optimized but lacks either good story/gameplay/graphics. So it generally makes more sense to focus on other aspects more. I bet If DAV trade optimization quality for an improved story it'll probably sell a few more copies too, lol. Is this the random thoughts thread or the modern video games suck thread?
Anyways, I answered your above post in the video games suck thread, but as a reminder: BioWare/EA fired all their shitty narrative designers and kept all the developers and artists who built the well optimized game. Carbuncle.Nynja said: » Ninja Gaiden 2 Original from 2008: ~7GB Ninja Gaiden 2 Black (aka remaster): ~86GB What the ***. I get higher res textures and what not take up more space, but thats absolutely zero optimization. Afania said: » trade optimization quality for an improved story i can't speak for others, but i'm not talking about reworking an algorithm to cut 2% off of the gpu load in a specific circumstance just to say how well the game runs i'm talking about the huge game breaking performance issues in half of recent UE4 games, where you get half the framerate you should for a given quality of textures these are huge and glaring design flaws that a competent dev would not have made during the first pass, they aren't a failure to go back and waste extra money on small things, i agree that is a poor use of resources Carbuncle.Nynja said: » People have been shitting on unoptimized garbage for a years now, and as its gotten worse, the number of people shitting on it has grown larger and has gotten louder. It's getting worse because AAA game gets more complex over the years so it cost more money to optimize performance. I don't think the number of people shitting on it is loud enough though. If every company sees metacritic scores drop by 30 points everytime a game is unoptimized then they will put more resources into it. If most people can tolerate an unoptimized game as long as they like the story/gameplay/graphics enough then companies will focus on those more. Edit: in the case of Ninja Gaiden 2 remaster, I am pretty sure it's not DEI, just lazy/low resources allocated on optimization. Since it's repackaging an old game for quick cash. |
