Then maybe your life experience is different from mine. I used to work in a network of first gen immigrant business owners, literally every one has a strong preference on employee from the same cultural background. If they need a good English speaker, they hire someone from their background that can speak English well. It's not hard to find a non-white immigrant that speaks multiple languages fluently in a multicultural city.

Most customer facing roles don't need "native" English speaking skills, just "professionally functional" English skills. A Chinese or Japanese employee that move to NA when they are 12-18 can speak English professionally just fine, and they still have some cultural understanding of co-workers/customers from the same background. Seems like an easy choice for people with a background preference.

I agree with this. Most immigrant-run businesses seem to be mono-ethnic in my area.

I don't think it's a bad thing, either. Employers should be permitted to selectively hire so that they can work with people they are most compatible with. I'd just prefer for my own people to have that same right.

You can't write sign language. It's only being a visual communication. I don't like forcing them to learn. If they want to, they can ask me anything.

However, every order gets printed out in the kitchen for the cooks to read. They do need to understand the basic language.

Many Christians support Israel because they need us to rebuild the temple before they can have their rapture. Many of those plan to laugh as all we Jews fall into the fires of hell.

Many people support Isreal as a bastion of western civilization in the Moslem mideast. Many of those see Israel's brutalizing of the Palestinians as a feature, not a problem. Others see a problem in that we don't wipe each other out leaving the mideast depopulated.

Israel the nation is a Jewish state. Many antisemites support the state for an assortment of reasons many of which I neither know nor can imagine. It doesn't make sense religiously but it sure does politically.

Sigh, while watching a free webinar about Java Spring, that watched only because its a technology used at work, the tutor said: "now here is my paid course!"

The thing is, i dont really have interest in Java, so i would skip.

Dang, this sounded like tailor made for me, because they are things that form the base of my project.

China just released an open source AI model that beats/matches everything the biggest and richest western AI companies have created, and that can do it cheaper and faster. The AI companies are struggling to rip it apart and steal everything from it to incorporate into their own.

Absolute shambles, 5-10 years of feelgood DEI policies and now we are the laughing stock of the world stealing the crumbs from Chinese gigabrains.



If they did this with an open source project that they gave away to everyone for free like it's nothing, imagine what they have that isn't.

Even non-DEI countries like Korea, Russia, India don't have this many talents and investments. So DEI is irrelevant.

China also dominated AI and advanced analytics research. 33% of “highly cited publications” came from China, 14% are from the US, 5.4% is from India, which is a non-DEI country.

Being a non-DEI country doesn't give you an advantage basically. What matters is the resources invested.

The only reason why the US was ahead for some time is because of advance AI chip ban on China and the lack of Chinese training data to train their models. But Chinese are overcoming this disadvantage by open source. Also those Chinese AI companies still obtain those Nvidia chips from black market, so chip ban isn't working well.

So it's not some kind of magic that China is catching up in this field. It's something that will come the moment they put way more resources into this field many years ago.

Blaming DEI is missing the point.

Everyone needs a scapegoat to justify their conspiracies. Especially RA.
