Valefor.Prothescar said: » Mobile gaming casts a wide net and abuses human psychology to rake in many, many millions of dollars while costing 10% or less to develop compared to a AAA game and even a fraction of a lot of modern indie games. That's why companies push them, and I'm honestly shocked that the industry hasn't shifted even more toward them considering how loveless the games industry as a whole has become. There'll never be a day where 'real' games make as much profit as mobile games/mobile focused games ever again, even when the inevitable microtransaction saturated AAAs start becoming more and more mainstream (you think it's bad now, just wait) they will never match the efficiency of a for-peanuts-development-budget mobile game. That's the reality and that's where we're headed. Games like Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, Nikke Goddess of Victory, and Granblue Fantasy are exactly what investors want: 20~50million USD a month in sales, less than 3 million a month in upkeep. This doesn't even touch on how prevalent mobile gaming is in Asia, which is quickly becoming (if not already) a bigger market than NA/EU for games. However I am not sure about the future of gaming. (Not sure mobile gaming will eliminate console/pc gaming) - not sure, not certain at all. I used to be. but now, hmm. Alll these recent developments, especially in A.I capabilities have caught off guard and I don't (don't think anyone) has a strong grasp on the amount of disruption that is going to take place over the next 36 months to all industries. I see gaming as one of the prime areas ripe for some ridiculously innovative disruption, powered/facilitated by A.I. Few things are happening at the moment that make me pause and want to re-*** the situation. But a year ago, I would have said gaming is doomed. Mobile gaming is just too sweet of a money maker for corps to pass up. I played diabolo immortal for 3 months. That's a blizzard title. I went into it with my guard down. Because it had that "blizzard" stamp of quality on it. Before I knew it, I had spent a SUV's worth of RL money getting my character to capped resonance. I have zero regrets for the peanuts I spent on RMT over 21+ years of FFXI. But my 3 months in diabolo immortal.. had a hard time explaining to the wife why we were going to Greece for summer vacation and not Hawaii lol Afania said: » Therefore, I strongly disagree that video games are getting worse as a whole. I think it's far more diversed and interesting in the recent years. The only market that gets worse is console games which is sadly full of generic open world and political correct themes these days. Though that isn't to say I don't have any hope. I'm sure I've mentioned before, I'm excited for a couple of upcoming releases for the first time in years. kuroki said: » do you think anyone ever fell off a ledge in sky? zilarts with the killer tech but no regard for safety! Draylo said: » So why did you pull that 1m/year out of your rear and then ask where his numbers are from? 1m/year? Cmon, that is not true lol. I averaged it based on numbers I've seen all over the board, but mainly here (which considers it "profitable" but doesn't consider the expense of having 3-5 staff members, infrastructure expenses, etc): https://www.ffxiah.com/database I asked because I've looked for this data and I've found numbers ranging from 20k to over 100k, so it's reasonable to ask where those numbers came from. I wasn't trying to prove a point by asking, but am legitimately curious, because I've yet to find an accurate figure. So yea, I didn't "pull it out of my rear", I based it on what limited information is available. At one point they published this data as part of the census, but that's not a thing anymore, so we're left trying to estimate with what data we have and accounting for things like mules, people only active during free login, RMT cycling accounts, etc. Do you really think there are 95k active subscribers when the average online server population on the busiest server is 3-4k at best? I'd put it around 60k unique individuals
It's 75k tracked of which 1/5 are mules and/or boxes. It can't track people who pay but don't log in, but I wouldn't expect that number to be very high. It's also pretty rare to not buy or sell anything for an entire month. But not impossible. (*)Not counting the 36x16 new bot accounts started every(other) week Garuda.Chanti said: » Thanks! They keep trying to force me to use "friends and family" so they don't have to pay a minimal fee... its like 3%, or they put the fee into the overall charge (which I think is against the rules.) This has been going on a while. I refuse to do it, I've had to file claims several times due to people not shipping stuff out even when I use G&S. The only way I pay F&F is if it's sitting in front of me and I can examine it, then walk away with it. A lot of FB groups and online buy/sell pages have policies against forcing people to use F&F also, so if someone is doing that in a group, it may be against the rules. All that being said, PayPal will generally favor the buyer in conflicts that arise, so it's not just the 3% fee, sellers have been scammed using it via buyers filing fake claims. They can file a claim that it wasn't as described or something then PayPal forces you to pay return shipping or tells them to destroy the item while taking the money back from you. It's always a roll of the dice selling something, which is why I'm also careful about who I sell to. Offline

I used to be. but now PC/console gaming won't be killed by mobile games with or without AI, their target audience is completely different. If anything PC/Console gaming market actually increased in the past a few years. Just that their % is now lower than before because mobile gaming market increased even more. Basically mobile game has attracted tons of new players who will never purchase PC/console games to begin with. Like my mom, lol. Safe to say even if mobile games never exist pc/console market will stay mostly the same as now. But a large chunk of growth in the entire industry will never exist too. I am not sure how would AI fundamentally change how consumers behave. Better automation tool may lower production costs slightly, which allows smaller team to create higher quality or bigger games than before. But it simply means consumers will have more products to choose from in that particular category, it doesn't mean whoever prefer to play games on their phones at work will suddenly go out and purchase a ps5 or Nvidia 4090 for their games because of AI. It is interesting though how blurred the lines are becoming between mobile and the others. The things that non-mobile gamers hated about mobile games are gradually bleeding into bigger releases, while mobile games are getting bigger and even supporting cross-platform experiences.
I wonder if mobile phones and PCs are eventually just going to blend together one day and become like the Nintendo Switch. Plug it into a dock (or maybe even connect via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth) to play games on your PC, but you can take it with you to play on the go as you already can with your cell phone. It already is/was. You can get a bluetooth controller and cast the screen onto your tv. And phone emulation on pc.
So, another Vana'clock coming up - already have two because I portered one last event, but is there a way to get a third?
Maybe recycle-binning one inside of Mog Garden and 'zoning' to the monster rearing area to trigger the event reward and hopefully not losing Recycle Bin contents? Or is there a way to trigger the event reward to drop down another way without zoning? Asura.Eiryl said: » It already is/was. You can get a bluetooth controller and cast the screen onto your tv. And phone emulation on pc. Like, where they'll be so powerful that they completely become the PC itself. Or maybe for a larger, high-resolution display they just have you plug it into an almost standalone GPU just to boost its processing power. Well it didn't work to well the first time (nokia ngage)
But eventually, pretty much certain. The difference between a tablet and some cellphones is already a matter of like 2" bigger screen and that's it. Everything moves forward. It's not if it's when. Rasperry Pi and other like devices are already smaller than phones and as good as 2017 pcs. I understand your perspective on PC/console gaming and the growth of the mobile gaming market. However, I think it's important to consider the increasingly blurred lines between mobile gaming and PC/console gaming. With advancements in mobile gaming technology and the capabilities of smartphones, it's possible that a larger portion of gamers could shift towards mobile gaming in the future. One of the factors that could contribute to this shift is the disruption brought about by AI in the gaming industry. AI has the potential to revolutionize game development, making it more accessible and cost-effective for amateurs and individuals to create their own games. Advanced AI tools can help streamline game design, automate tasks, and even generate realistic game environments, characters, and storylines. This democratization of game development could lead to an explosion of new and innovative games, appealing to a wider audience and further blurring the lines between mobile and traditional gaming platforms. From a capitalist viewpoint, investments are likely to flow towards areas with maximum returns and minimal risk. Mobile gaming could potentially offer a more significant profit margin, given its wider addressable market, since mobile phones are more affordable than PCs and are considered a necessity today. Although some high-end smartphones might be comparably priced to gaming laptops, they still serve a dual purpose, making them a more attractive option for many consumers. Considering these factors, it's possible that mobile gaming could have a substantial impact on the PC/console gaming market over time. This is not to say that traditional gaming platforms will disappear completely, but rather that we might see a shift in focus and investment towards mobile gaming as technology and user preferences evolve. You're thinking the phone will eat the pc like it did the camera and mp3 player, but the headset is going to eat the phone. I don't think pc is ever (in a reasonable amount of time) going the way of the payphone, or the fax machine. You're always going to want the keyboard and 18/24/32/40" screen, *** that 5" screen. And battery life has to improve dramatically. Offline
