Theres places out there where you can get a copy of all the FFXI files on a torrent so you have less to download from SE. I believe theres a local copy floating around here. Possibly outdated by a couple years, but still better than 20 years of updates.

Incorrect, they updated the installer some time ago.

It wasnt easy to decide the new char. I like my main as a human with black hair, but I already have my main.
So, I went with a mithra anyway.
Back to being poor, managed to grab some few coins selling spark, but is there any new form to earn money early on?
And, there is something about this AMAN aliason (sp)?
I guess I had luck, found a pearl in the concierge that seems pretty well populated, surprised me such LS was available there.
